Upon completing an application form on the Car Credit UK website, I received a phone call from a very cheerful chap who explained to me that he was about to move heaven and earth in order to find me a finance solution for a car...great I thought.

Sure enough I was found a lender and was asked to go down to my local Car Credit UK branch..the nearest being 35 miles away but no matter...I made the trip with a friend of mine who knows a considerable amount of cars. We arrived and were met by a sales assistant there, again bending over backwards to make us comfortable etc

All is fine upto this point, he does a valuation on my existing car and checks my documents, great..im eligable for a new car he says. Fine so far I thought, until my documents dissapeared into another room along with my credit card which was the only thing acceptable apparently for proof of signature..at this point alarm bells are ringing as this company looks and feels dodgy and seedy through and through.

Nonetheless we were then shown round the cars...I have never in my life seen such overpriced, bad conditioned cars not to mention the selection was limited to about 30 cars.

Here is where it starts to get nasty....should you not like any of the cars they have on offer, which I suspect will happen for 95% of people, they will then get very very rude, pushy and intimidating, they are absolutely hell bent on getting you into one of their cars and signed on the dotted line...I refused car after car having seen how battered and damaged they were.

Having refused the cars outside, I was taken back inside and hauled in front of the centre manager no less who proceeded to interrogate and bully me about why I didnt want any of their cars, I explained the cars were not upto standard and to part with x amount of money per week for a sub standard car is something im not prepared to do.

So..another wait...I'm now informed they are bringing another car over from one of their warehouses...my friend and I saw this as a last bid attempt by them to get me to buy a car...fair enough..we came..we'll take a look at this one last car...by this time we had been there 3 hours!

The car arrived...it was an O2 plate peugeot 206 in white...nice car...oh no but wait...the door looks like its been reversed into, doesnt close and doesnt line up with the chassis. The boot is offset, you can fit your finger down one side, but it is a tight fit on the other, Its evident this car had been in a crash as we could see a weld line in the boot! At this point I was outside being pressurised by 2 sales assistants, the manager and a finance lender (who happened to be on site) to drive this car away...they wanted no less than 6,000 for this pile of junk! Absolutely not...I outright refused, the manager threatened to throw my friend off the premises simply for speculating and asking one of the assistants if the vehicle had been in a crash, which was evident it had been. End of story? oh no...keep reading...

Back inside we go....hauled into another room with just the finance lender this time who proceeds to use my credit history against me sayng I have x,y and z on my file and this is really my only option...after still refusing he becomes agressive and threatening stating that I have wasted 3 hours of everyones time etc

Enough I thought...I asked for my documents back and they very grudgingly handed them over after 3 times of asking and waiting. We drove away still in my old car feeling like I'd had a lucky escape.

This is a company who are not interested in selling you a car, all they want is the finance deal, the cars they sell are substandard, awful wrecks, their sales technique is rude, abusive, threatening and agressive, they absolutely will not let you leave unless you drive away one of their cars.

Never again will I visit a car supermarket. Just because they are sub-prome lenders does not mean you have to settle for a sub-prime car or sub-prime service.

Thanks,

Simon

Cowboys - Steer clear
Review of Car Credit UK by MagicGordon

Advantages: Almost guaranteed a car
Disadvantages: Appalling service and shocking products

My car required a lot of work done to it last year - money that my wife and I just could not afford. Given our credit history - we had previous financial difficulties - there was no way we were getting credit through a mainstream car dealership. I browsed the net and after a lot of 'should I, or shouldn't I' conflict with myself, I applied to one of these companies. I e-mailed my, (very few), details to Car Credit UK and within an hour I received ...
...one of these companies, (Yes Car Credit), on 'Watchdog'. Their pressure sales tactics were appalling, so I was on guard when we arrived. This is how it works: They will ask you to bring along a few documents that prove who you are; phone bill, bank statement, drivers license, etc. When you arrive they will take those docs off you and disappear. They tried to get my bank card off me but I refused and gave them a photo ID with a signature on it. They ... Read review

Review of Car Credit UK by bobbythegreat

Advantages: got a car
Disadvantages: long time waiting around

...book (V5) couldnt tax our car for nearly 7 weeks - would not recomend this company to anyone- phonecalls galore before hand- after vehicle was purchased trying to speak to someone was a nightmare. You are rushed quite alot to choose a vehicle, so many times we were told we will be 2 minutes 30 minutes later someone came back. i would not recomend this place to anyone unless they are desperate - we tried to pull out of the contract as not happy ... Superb service and advice
Review of broadspeed.com by  rossnick63

Advantages: Comprehensive web site, buy from main dealer, good prices
Disadvantages: No trade in facility, but helps sell online

...Superb service, helpful Broadspeed staff who gave me plenty of useful advice before i decided what to order. Once I narrowed down my choice to a Skoda 1.9 TDi Elegance Automatic (diesel 105PS and £35 a year), I completed an online pre order. Then I called the broadspeed activation number (they said they get 250 enquiries a day and needed to identify those ready to order) to progress my order. Next step was an email quote which confirmed the terms of the orfder ie price, delivery date (which they explained was plus/ minus three weeks), final fixed price etc. I paid £1000 by credit card (which insured the whole purchase - see which.co.uk) and I waited for the invoice. In the event, the car arrived three weeks earlier than I expected (though I was not forced to take it early). I paid the balance (exact, to the penny) and the car was... Read review

Spoiled for choice...Wonderful!!!!!
Review of Motorhouse 2000 Ltd by  kandmf

Advantages: Good stock turnover, very keen prices
Disadvantages: Difficult to find but only at first

...a problem but while you will be the first user you will not be registered as the first owner. It is the equivalent of buying a pre registered car .The warranty runs from the date of FIRST registration NOT from the purchase date After months of looking and making up my mind I eventually found exactly what I was looking for in one of the weekly emails. All that then happened was one phone call to check the details and that the car was full UK spec. A deposit was taken via debit card (there is a surcharge for credit cards). About a fortnight later I had a phone call to say that the vehicle was on site so I arranged to inspect it. All was OK but pre delivery inspection was still to be done. Motorhouse like to make specific appointments for car delivery. This gives them the chance to suggest various extras such as Gap insurance. Just say no... Read review
