Car speakers not worth buying...
Review of Alpine SWE-1000 by
Mr.Freeman
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Everything.
...my Fiat, I found the Alpine series. Although not widely marketed, I found a series of three of them and tested them out before I decided to buy them. I would love to say that they performed excellently and created a unique musical environment in my vehicle...but they didn't. I found the speakers quite poor in reception, they seemed to hum and reverb whenever I sped up. I thought initially that this was due to loose connections, but after I searched ...

Pounding bass for your pound
Review of Alpine SWD 1600 by
salsacolin
Advantages: Great Bass, Very Compact, only £100
Disadvantages: None that I have found so far
Alpine have always held a high position of regard for in car entertainment since I first installed a complete 1250w sound system back in 1990.
I own a Peugeot 206cc and have installed an Alpine DVD head unit and although more than impressed with the standard speakers (which I hope to upgrade at some stage with a set of JBL's) when the roof is down it hard for any standard set of speakers to provide the bass required.
There is also a severe limitation ... ...more practical solution. Enter the Alpine SWD 1600's, although only 6.5" this 150w active sub on paper at least met my requirements.
Alpine market the Subwoofer as a Fill in for the main cabin of a car in a big installation (where the subs are usually located in the boot) or to provide bass in a small installation)
The Sub fits easily under the seat (in my case the passenger seat) ad provides a more than adequate bass ranging from 60hz to 160hz ...

Crystal sound upgrade from factory car speakers
Review of Alpine SXE 1325 S by
Chris-g123
Advantages: Loud, Clear, and good value
Disadvantages: Small best used along side larger bass speakers
...gems at Halfords. The Alpine SXE 1325 S 13cm door speakers deliver a very clear high and mid-range sound and have a surprizingly punchy bass considering there size. I managed to fit them in Halfords carpark in half an hour with all the nessasery screws and bits provided. I then drove home in aural pleasure.
I am planning to fit some 6x9 speakers in my parcel shelf to provide the bass sound to a better level. Hopefully i can afford some Alpine ones. ...

VDO HSP 6931 speakers
Review of VDO HSP 6931 by
JonBOY26
Advantages: phat bass!
Disadvantages: speakers are quite deep, so be sure to check your install depth available
...along with a set of VDO 6" splits. I've tried numerous big name brands of speakers (Sony, Pioneer, Kenwoord, JVC), and these VDOs out-do all of them! The speakers provide it all, very clear treble and mid range sound, bit more importantly they have fantastic base. I found that with a full set of VDO speakers (6x9's in the rear plus the 6" splits in the front) running through a 4 channel amp I did not even need a sub. Just be sure to get the HSP range ... ...out her Hyundai Tiburon with VDO speakers. Only word of caution is that these badboys have a massive magnet on the back of them, so size-wise they are quite deep. Be sure to check the installation depth available as they require more depth space then your average speaker. The VDO brand is not as well regarded as others, but I can not speak highly enough of these speakers. Give a set a go and you will not be disappointed! ...

Poor quality speakers
Review of Riesen L 21 AT by
DCISmith
Advantages: Drop in replacement for 5 inch car speakers. Reasonable bass response
Disadvantages: Tweeter breaks easily, distorts at volume. Expensive for what you get.
I bought 2 boxes of these speakers at £15 per box to replace the 4 much abused, 18 year old speakers in my car. Initially I was pleased with them, they weren't much louder than the speakers they replaced but they had slightly better clarity and bass. After a month or so, one of the speakers developed a horrible high pitched buzz from the tweeter on certain notes. I checked to see nothing was caught in it and wrote it down to me over-driving them. ... ...a lowly 12watts RMS, I felt 90 watt speakers should be able to cope. However, for some reason the manufacturer refuses to follow the industry and measure their speakers in RMS.
After a further few weeks of not particularly loud music, the other 3 speakers developed exactly the same problem as the first, screaming on certain tones.
I borrowed a tone generator CD from someone and played it loud through all frequencies which seems to have reduced ...
