Pounding bass for your pound
Advantages: Great Bass, Very Compact, only £100 Disadvantages: None that I have found so far
Alpine have always held a high position of regard for in car entertainment since I first installed a complete 1250w sound system back in 1990.
I own a Peugeot 206cc and have installed an Alpine DVD head unit and although more than impressed with the standard speakers (which I hope to upgrade at some stage with a set of JBL's) when the roof is down it hard for any standard set of speakers to provide the bass required.
There is also a severe limitation ... ...more practical solution. Enter the Alpine SWD 1600's, although only 6.5" this 150w active sub on paper at least met my requirements.
Alpine market the Subwoofer as a Fill in for the main cabin of a car in a big installation (where the subs are usually located in the boot) or to provide bass in a small installation)
The Sub fits easily under the seat (in my case the passenger seat) ad provides a more than adequate bass ranging from 60hz to 160hz ...

Car speakers not worth buying...
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Everything.
...my Fiat, I found the Alpine series. Although not widely marketed, I found a series of three of them and tested them out before I decided to buy them. I would love to say that they performed excellently and created a unique musical environment in my vehicle...but they didn't. I found the speakers quite poor in reception, they seemed to hum and reverb whenever I sped up. I thought initially that this was due to loose connections, but after I searched ...

Crystal sound upgrade from factory car speakers
Advantages: Loud, Clear, and good value Disadvantages: Small best used along side larger bass speakers
...gems at Halfords. The Alpine SXE 1325 S 13cm door speakers deliver a very clear high and mid-range sound and have a surprizingly punchy bass considering there size. I managed to fit them in Halfords carpark in half an hour with all the nessasery screws and bits provided. I then drove home in aural pleasure.
I am planning to fit some 6x9 speakers in my parcel shelf to provide the bass sound to a better level. Hopefully i can afford some Alpine ones. ...

Great Quality Speakers
Advantages: Very clear highs and full midrange response Disadvantages: Weak base
...and purchase these high end alpine speakers.
After reading all of the information i could find i decided that these would suit my needs well, im used to high quality Bose systems at home so thought these could produce similar results in my car.
When i got them out of the box my first impressions were of how well they appeared to be made, the cast aluminium frame and the multi-role surround on the cone gave an immediate impression of the quality. ... ...them in my car was simple, remove the old speakers and fit the woofers, then find a suitable place for the crossover and route the cabling for the tweeters to the dash board where i chose to place them. Two more cables running to an amplifier (Alpine MRV-F345) in the boot and it was sorted.
A card was included to help you set up the crossover to achieve the optimum sound from the speakers. This gave simple instructions on measurements to take, and ...

SPR694A, Do they deserve their Alpine badge??
Advantages: These speakers will handle large amounts of power and are more than willing to do so for long periods of time. They have rather punchy bass so I find that they work very well along side a sub and they have great midrange sound. Disadvantages: Quite weighty so if you're planning on installing them into a standard parcel shelf be prepared to stregthen it, better still would be to replace the shelf with a wooden one.
...I already had the Alpine SPR176A components up front and was more than happy with them so I thought that I'd give their 6x9 cousins a try. When they arrived I was impressed by the build quality of the basket and cone, they come with the same silk dome tweater as the Alpine compnents so I pretty much knew what to expect.
I hooked them up to my Alpine 4ch amp and fired them up!! "oooh dear" they sounded dreadful, the bass was way to tight and midange ... ...the 694's DO deserve their Alpine badge, I left it 6 months to review them so I could see how they'd bare the test of time, and mine are still here and they take alot more stick than speakers I've owned before.
Go buy em! oh, and they look pretty sexy aswell!!! ...
