Garmin NUVI 660T
Review of Garmin NÜVI 660T by scottykins

Advantages: Clear mapping, robust, good range of options, highly portable
Disadvantages: Sometimes tells you theres a junction when there isn't

The Garmin NUVI 660T is a very robust and solid unit. Very clear mapping, good options for configuration, and generally, it gets you where you want to be (which is good!). At times it tells you to turn when actually it's just a bend in the road, but its better than ending up in the hedge! You can also walk with this one as the charge holds really well compared to other rival satnavs. The upsides? Robust, clear mapping, clear voices (though they can ...
...good range of options and highly portable. Handy if you can't find your way to the shops! Downsides? Sometimes tells you to turn when there's no junction and sometimes sends you the wrong way down a one way street (yes same as the rest!). Overall though, with the most up to date mapping, this is an excellent sat nav! ... Read review

Innaccurate with poor database
Review of Garmin NÜVI 200 by Biffo28

Advantages: Resonable cheap
Disadvantages: Innaccurate with poor database

Agree with most of what the previous reviewer said but he left out a couple of very important drawbacks. 1. It really isn't very accurate when you take it out of town, navigating for the first time to our friends country house it told us we had arrived approx a quarter of a mile from the actual destination. (using postcode with house number entry) This failing was repeated many times travelling to other countryside destinations. 2. its database ...
...actual destinations that exist in the real world. I have been told this is not Garmins problem but is caused by the maps they are forced to use? In terms of a recommendation, given the opportunity i WOULDN'T have bought this item had i been aware of its ACTUAL performance. ... Read review

Garmin Nuvi 250 Satnav (/GPS)
Review of Garmin NÜVI 250 W by cport80

Advantages: Touch-screen, USB, Card-slot, Mapsource compatability
Disadvantages: Bad maps, immediate next turn direction, no variable POI proximity,

...and it's alert sounding. This Garmin seems to sound the alert at it's own preset distance warning which you can't change from the menu system. It also seems to take a while to find the satellites. We went to our local park on saturday which is about a mile from home and we were practically on the car-park before it locked on. The worst part though was how innacurate the maps seem to be. On one trip, It didn't have a roundabout on its map which has ...
...to send us up a one-way street against the flow of traffic. Also it gives you one direction and then immediately tells you which direction to turn next, even if the turning isn't for another 100+ ft. Should you decide not to listen to it's direction it then spouts off "Recalculating route, recalculating route" until you're back on it's calculated course. This is really annoying in the city if you know where you're going as it insists on repeating ... Read review

A good Garmin
Review of Garmin Streetpilot C 510 by beany_spoon

Advantages: Clear navigation, easy to use
Disadvantages: Camera alert noise gets on your nerves!

...many of its counterparts, the Garmin does not come attached to the suction pad. It depends on your view as to whether this is an advantage or not, but I personally feel that it is. The suction pad has a good hold on the device and because where the Sat-Nav fits on the back, it can roate around easily. I feel that it adds to the ease of use because you can just take off the device, slip it into the carry case and then put the holder into your glove ...
...that I love about my Garmin is that the screen automatically changes when it gets dark, so that it doesn't reflect too much on your screen. You can overide this setting but I personally think that it really helps to make life easier for you. NAVIGATION The Garmin is quite quick to recalculate a route once you deviate from it. It will also calculate a better route for you if you so choose and can navigate round traffic if you choose that setting. ... Read review
