Excellant little gadget
Advantages: Excellant little gadget Disadvantages: Keeps losing its GPS signal for longer than it should
TomTom ONE combines ease of use, portability, touchscreen technology and an elegant, unmistakable new design. Drivers can enjoy the benefits of a TomTom ONE immediately, thanks to TomTom’s award-winning plug and drive navigation software pre-installed on a memory card.
This means there is no need to download complicated software, just plug in and start using. TomTom ONE comes with the latest maps of Western Europe.
I got this at xmas from Currys ... ...fits perfectly into my pocket or handbag and is perfect for when I travel to football ground around the country. It charges via the USB on my laptop or in car charger. It has various free voices that I can download from the internet and I can also get numerous free updates. I also got a free speed camera cd with the box which was worth £19.99 so was an added bonus. Only problem I have found is that every so often it is losing the GPS signal and becomes ...

Low Bridge, no problem, this is the best truck sat nav
Advantages: Clear instructions, many extra features, avoids all trucking hazards. Disadvantages: Almost too large, expensive to purchase
...bit nicer. The Snooper Sirius S7000 Truckmate is the same as the normal Snooper Sirius S7000, but it has been loaded with a special truck version of the sat-nav software which is made by a company called Truckmate, so it is a sort of colaberation between the two companies. You can get two versions - the UK & Ireland and the UK and Europe. My husband owns the latter, but they work identically, it just depends if you plan on going to Europe or not ... ...with, looks the machine has a sleek black finish and is completely flat, at about 2cm thick, It has a 7" flat screen which produces an excellent quality picture. It comes with a hefty mounting bracket to enable you to stick it to the inside of the window, and various external aerials to enable you to get the best reception for all the applications you require (However you don't need to use these if you are just using it as a Sat-nav, so its not complicated, ...

Stressfree travel! No more maps
Advantages: Stress free, easy travel Disadvantages: Can get confusing if you are driving on a new road that isn't on your map!
TOMTOM ONE 3rd edition. I got my tomtom as a Xmas present last year, and wow what a present it was. I like to whizz off for weekends away with my daughter, somerset, Cornwall, London etc and I have always used AA route planner before, which was great, but reading whilst at the wheel isn't really that safe is it! I have also found I can get very stressed if I am trying to find my way somewhere and miss a turning etc. Using the TOMTOM makes my travel ... ...1) Driving around London, tomtom made that so easy, I could spend my time concentrating on what the taxi's and white vans were doing and the computer told me where to go, SIMPLE. 2) On a holiday to Portugal I used my Dads edition Europe. It was fantastic, all I had to do was concentrate on driving on the correct side of the road. What would have normally been a stressful driving experience was a very normal driving experience. SO WHAT IS A SAT NAV? ...

Garmin NÜVI 1390 easy to use.
Advantages: Very Simple to Use, Screen large and clear Disadvantages: Can't think of any
Garmin NÜVI 1390 is very simple to use - up and running after just a few clicks to set your location. The colour screen is large and clear, you can zoom in or out (which I find very useful) whilst viewing maps. On major junctions it also displays on the screen all the different lanes and which one you should be in. There's a lot of different voices that you can choose from, in almost every different language.
I've used mine on around 10 long journeys ... ...spot on (my previous sat nat would have me going round in circles). It has a handy feature whereby it beeps when it detects a speed camera, although I have now turned this off as where I live there are speed cameras around every corner, so it was constantly beeping.
It managed to pick up a satellite signal whilst inside my house, which my old sat nav never did.
Battery life is good - mine lasts around 4 hours. It also comes with a cigarette charger, ...

Invaluable For The Geographically Useless Like Me!
Advantages: Good lay-out, clear instructions both visually and vocally Disadvantages: Most satnavs, including the Nuvi, seem to encounter a 'technical fault' eventually
...decided to invest in the Garmin Nuvi 200 (UK). I purchased this from Halfords when they had a sale on Sat Navs for £89.99, but they generally retail for £99.99. Although these devices have come down in price since first being marketed, they're still very pricey. I'm sure there will be many more offers on now around Christmas with updated models, so there's even more choice now. I wouldn't have bought one if I felt safe with your bog standard map ... ...wouldn't load. I spoke with Garmin who suggested a few things to try, but nothing helped and they put it down to a 'technical fault which can not be fixed'. Be aware of the returns/fix policy of the shop from which you buy this product. Although they're good sat navs, they still have many complaints made about them and hundreds of units get returned to the shop and exachanged. With Halfords, I just took the product in along with the receipt, and ...
