A Sat Nav to give Tomtom a run for it's money!
Advantages: Excelent navigation tool Disadvantages: Very poor battery life
...for was traffic updates. The Sony range of traffic enabled units (signified by the "T" at the end of the model number) I found to offer this facility for approximately half the price of the equivalent Tomtom units. Driving heavy goods vehicles I have used most of the leading brands of satnav such as Tom tom, Magellan, Traffic Master, Navman, Garmin etc etc. but nothing has possessed the wow factor that makes them stand out from the crowd so to speak. ... ...have it's pitfalls, but overall Sony have ventured into the satnav market with flying colours for which I will elaborate further. General Design >>>>>>>>>>>>> The first thing that strikes you with the U92 is it's very impressive 4.8" display screen. Although much larger than the average display, the design of the unit in no way makes the satnav look oversized or cumbersome. Unlike some, it is quite slim in design making the unit look quite stylish ...

Not worth the sale price...
Advantages: Gets you home. Disadvantages: Doesn't work properly!
This sat-nav does what it says on the tin. It gets you from A to B. Sometimes not by the best route!
The best bit of the sat-nav is that the instructions are clear and concise, both on screen and verbal. However, I personally have a few nitpicks that will lead me to buying a new one (and a different brand) in the new year.
Firstly it's touch screen controls are severely lacking. Half the time when you touch the screen, it doesn't realize that you ... ...volume changes a pain. I don't think I've ever managed to draw a "gesture" onto the scree, which is one of the selling points.
One of the other reasons I bought it, was the inbuilt directory of attractions when you're in a town you don't know. However once again, it falls down on this seemingly simple task. Every time my partner and I go somewhere, we always have to rely on his sat-nav to get us there, if we don't already know the post code. You ...

A good sat nav with some great features
Advantages: Screen, maps, voice directions, gesture commands, speed cameras, dashboard attachment Disadvantages: Slightly slow processor, not mac compatible, no future support
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Sony no longer make sat navs for the European market and are thus slowly stopping support for the current line-up. So it looks as if there will be no further map updates for Sony sat navs. A real shame, i think, as i believe they could have gone on to produce some great products.
After much consideration, and research, I decided that the Sony was exactly what I wanted - a basic system that would replace the hassle of map reading ... ...as with screens on all Sony products, is superb. Whether you use it day or night it won't disappoint, and it automatically changes its brightness so you don't have to. Having the large wide screen also means you can see lots of the surrounding area including nearby villages/towns etc, which are clearly labelled. You would be looking at paying at least £30 more for the equivalent screen size on other makes.
I also love the ease of operation of this ...

Nice Satnav, Shame about the battery!
Advantages: Brilliant Navigation Tool Disadvantages: Abysmal battery life, Extras leave a lot to be desired
This is now my second Sony satnav unit, having previously owned the next model down from this (NV-U92). My old satnav was stolen and no doubt sold for the price of a drugs fix, however as they say that is another story. Having been somewhat impressed by the performance of my U92, I was more than happy when the insurance offered to replace it with the U93. I have to say that in comparison, apart from the U93 being compatible with Windows Vista (The ... ...of styling and design, The Sony range of Satnav do look the part! In terms of where the unit can be mounted, they are vastly more flexible than other brands on the market. The units are quite robust and are built to withstand the inevitable knocks and scrapes. There are however as with most things the odd few flaws in design for which I will elaborate further.

Sat Nav (or sat navel gazing?)
Advantages: Excellent when teamed with a map, nice appearance, fast route-changer Disadvantages: Cost, lack of documentation, slightly buggy
...digits in her postcode. The Sony NV-U 50 only allows you to input four digits into the display (via a rather nifty touch screen i might add) which was incredibly annoying and whilst we could use the device for some of the way by inputting area names and then street names, we had to resort to the traditional map reading and as i was in the passenger seat, my boyfriend found this to be the most annoying of all! (I am terrible at reading maps). The ... ...than relying completely on the Sony NV-U 50, and it helps if there is more than one person in the car as someone who is driving needs to concentrate on the road rather than the monitor/ reprogramming etc.
If you're used to driving in northern France and in Ireland then this is a good product for you as it extends it's range to these areas. The aesthetic appearance of the product is pleasing to the eye and looks modern and smart with a bright screen; ...
