This is the alarm to get
Advantages: Good visual deterrent, no false alarms Disadvantages: Expensive
...alot of friends, and the Clifford was recommended to me.
I chose a Concept 300. This is one of the cheapest Thatcham 1 approved alarms on the Market, but is probably one of the best. It never goes off in the night on a false alarm. It always locks on the first keypress. It never malfunctions. You can expand it like you would never believe. Any electrical item on your car can be controlled by the alarm. It will cost you, but you can make it do anything. ... ...car? Get this alarm. You want to press a button on your remote to turn on your headlights? Get this alarm. Buy the remote start kit and you can start your car 10 minutes before you leave your house. On a frosty morning, your car will all be nicely defrosted for you, and you can even press a button on the fob to activate your heated seats. It's a decent alarm. I'd recommend it to anyone. Except to pay between £300-400 for a professionally fitted standard ...

deterred but beaten
Advantages: loud, immobiliser included Disadvantages: expensive
This is supposedly one of the best on the market and our car (mitsubishi lancer evo V) already had one fitted and included an immobiliser. It was easy to use and on testing it was loud when set off. I am told it cost £350 to install so semmed to be rather expensive but we hadn't had to fork out for it!
When activated, any opening of doors, windows or bonnet would set off the alarm. The immobiliser had to dis-activated differently once inside the ... ...All in all it seemed to be a very good alarm but it turns out we were proved wrong.
On Monday night the alarm went off at approximately 11.45pm thus causing my partner to jump out of bed and run down the stairs but no one was around and everything seemed to be intact so he reset and came back to bed. We were woken at 5 am by a neighbour and found the car stripped of it's bonnet, front bumper, headlights and some engine parts - it was unbelieveable ...
