Affordable first caravan
Advantages: Affordable, quite well made Disadvantages: Short on luxuries
The Discovery is Baileys entry model, the 400 is the largest of the 4 models. The 100 200 300 400 range were sold from 2002 to 2005, the earlier caravan had a more complex number 516 I think and the newest are named after planets. There were 2 basic versions, the earlier with 3 front windows, and the later with a large window, I am reviewing the earlier version.
Ours is a 2003 model Discovery, it was purchased new, it is a large single axle 5 berth ... ...quite well made (in Bristol), but not very well equipped.
Internal length is 5.19m, full length 6.61m, width 2.19m, height 2.71m, headroom 1.9m. It takes a 925 size awning, weighs 920kg with a maximum laden weight of 1203kg.
Tha chassis is Alco with a normal tow hitch, 185 size tyres, and the usual rubber suspension. A conventional sandwich floor is used with a GRP front, plastic rear and aluminium/wood/hardboard sandwich walls. The roof is aluminium ...

Home From Home
Advantages: Good sleeping arrangements and feels spacious Disadvantages: Quite heavy and uninspiring bathroom.
...consideration we opted for the Abbey Vogue 540 as the ideal model. We selected a special edition which gave us extra plugs, a BBQ point, nicer upholstery and an alarm. We bought this model in April 2008 for about £14000 I think.
Layout
This van has a reasonably standard caravan layout, the lounge area with seats either side is at the front, there is a kitchen on one side in the middle with a dinette opposite which converts into bunk beds ... ...need a family van I would not hesitate to recommend this one and if you needed a different arrangement there are 7 different layouts in the range. The Abbey name has now disappeared so these can be picked up for about £11,000 from a dealer for the 2008 model. ...

Elddis Crusader Superstorm
Advantages: Stunning Disadvantages: none
The 2007 Elddis crusader Superstorm is a beautiful caravan. It has plent of storage space, inside & out. We have two kids 13 yr girl & 11yr boy & even they have plenty of storage even though they take everything including the kitchen sink. We have had no problems with this model allthough we had the 2006 model which we were not happy with, Elddis has rectified the problems with the 2007. Its like home from home & also tows like a dream. If you are ... ...then this is the caravan for you. I love the fact that the kids have got their own bedroom area, so when friends from other vans come over, off the go down the back & leave the adults up front to have good chat & maybe a glass or two. The tinted glass is great to. You get the privace without having to draw the blinds. I can say that there isnt anything I dont love about this caravan. Everything works like a dream. Its got all the mod cons you would ...

Modern, great value and easy to tow.
Advantages: Made by Swift, quality fittings, flexible layout, light weight and easy to tow Disadvantages: Bit dark at the dining room end
Bought this van in March 2008 and chose it because of flexible layout for two and light weight. The interior is modern and spacious, unlike many vans where the wood loooks very orange and old fashioned. Rear bunk was easy to remove and now makes a great fixed bed when travelling abroad or easily converts to a dining room with big couches at the front if you want extra space in the day. Quality of fittings are excellent and most are identical to those ... ...of France last summer and achieved around 36 mpg with a Saab 9-3 1.9TD. Large front window is really attractive, but like many others we had a problem and it has been replaced. Now seems fine. Main down side is the rear seems a liitle dark compared to our previous Swift as there is no rear roof light, only one side window and no door window. Fitted LEDs under the shelf at one side and am making enquiries about posibility of having a door with window ...

A Lovely second Home
Advantages: Very comfortable and roomy Disadvantages: The towing size unless you are used to it.
My mother has just bought a brand new one and we love it. The finish is really good.
The storage areas are very good sizes with very secure catches and they go around the top of the caravan. Underneath this there are down lighters.
The roof area over the main seating area has a very large skylight which as got an incorparated flyscreen.
The seats are a very nice fabric and the cushions are very thick making them very comfortable.
The toilet area ... ...for access. The sink tape pulls out to become the showerhead.
There is a Full size fridge with icebox and it has a full size oven for all those family dinners.
The walls are double skinned so they keep the damp away from your bedding areas.
Overall a lovely caravan. ...
