Carcraft is one of , if not THE biggest Car used car dealers, with 11 hypermarkets across the UK. With over 8000 cars to choose from there is certainly something for everyone and every budget!

We bought a new, well used, car on Mothers Day this year. We decided that we needed a bigger family car with me expecting our second child. And it was as good an excuse as any other!!

So, why did we choose Carcraft, Well, we are not the richest people in the world so buying a car was a great big payout. We decided to see about getting some help from Carcraft as they offer credit facilities.

We visited the Carcraft website and browsed through the hundreds of cars in their portfolio. Great! so easy and in no time at all we chose a car and emailed them to display an interest! We chose a Citroen Picasso, a great People carrier at less than £4K for a 2001 registration.

In no time at all, Carcraft were on the telephone to us, asking us about whether we were really intrested in the car we had chosen online. Of course we said yes and asked about the credit facility. we weer told someone would get back to us within 24 hours to tell us whether we could have credit or not.

A day later, I was rather frustrated as usually when they say 24 hours, you get a reply in a few hours! But, nevertheless the credit was approved and the car had been reserved or us. We were very excited and decided to go pick the car up that Sunday, which happened to be Mothers Day!! A new car for a mothers day pressie! Yeah!!

So, so far so good! We travelled the fifty miles to the Leeds Bradford Carcraft, so easy to find off the motorway. We set off at 8.30am which is pretty early considering it was a Sunday morning but we had guests for Sunday Dinner at 3pm so need to be back and read to cook for midday really. This gave us plenty of time, we thought, to do everything necessary! How wrong we were!!

We arrived at Carcraft at just gone 10am. We asked fro the fellow that we had arranged everything with, and apparently he was upstairs doing our paperwork!! So we went over to the cafe to have a coffee while we waited. We were told yo go and look around but the torrential rain and winds prevented that. After ten fifteen minutes, we heard a voice say, " *****, your customers are waiting for you!" the man who we were waiting to finish his paperwork was sat behind us having his breakfast!!!!

We let it pass as he offered us free drinks and seemed to be very smooth talking. He assured us everything was in order and took us to see our new car. it was still in the parking lot but was sparkling clean, perfect!! I asked about the absence of the Car Tax Disc, we were told cars are not provided with Tax. "But it has never caused a problem with previous customers before!! " is what we were told. We were assured the car had recently been MOTed! Also I noticed the price tag! It said £5400. Ooh, £1900 more than we were expecting!! Not to worry, we were discounted the difference between the online price and the on site price! Cool!!!

WE agreed the purchase and we were told that the car would be fully valeted before we took it away and underway a 120 point inspection . Great!! We will be home in no time we thought!!

Then everything started to crumble........ It was now around eleven o clock. We just had to sign the credit pages and drive home!! How long could it take!?!! We waited, and waited, and waited and waited!!! Two hours later we signed the paperwork, then waited and waited and waited or the key to our key! We got plenty of apologies but no explanations!! I was getting rather peeved! I was spending Mothers Day in Carcraft!! Time was ticking and I was panicking about my Sunday Dinner!!

So, it got better yes??? - well kind of!!

We were taken into an office to talk with the Finance Manager. HE went through the Finance with us just to make sure we could afford it! We were offered 3 years warranty at a price of less than £1k to be included rather the original 3 months warranty. We also got RAC Roadside Assistance. Good deal! But our monthly premium doubled in the space of ten minutes!

Did we accept the offers?? - we did as we didnt see why not! 3 years warranty is a lot of cover! We only have to fund the MOT certificate itself and consumables such as oil etc. The rest is chargeable to Carcraft!

So was I a bit happier then?? - No.. it was nearing 2pm and we still didnt have the keys to our new car. It was still being valeted apparently!

So , while we waited we sorted out some insurance so we could get home. We were given a weeks free insurance with a popular insurance broker to get started. A simple phone call got all that sorted out without any problems at all!

Phew! Something was going right!!!

So it was coming up just after 2pm, we were done right!! Nearly! We had to wait for a manager to come and say thank you for the custom!

Okay.... so we got home around 3.30pm, no time to cook a dinner for six people! I was rather fed up at my wasted day!! but should we have been more prepared!?! We had the car chosen, the finance sorted... so why did it take so long! Well apparently it was just one of those things!!

Despite being fed up, we have our new car, it is fabulous and we have not had any regrets! And we wouldn't have got a car otherwise!?

So summarised!
- Great initial contact, finance sorted within 24 hours
- Very smooth sales people
- Car is MOTed but not taxed
- Slow behind the scenes!
- Very good discounts
- Make sure your day is free!

So really, they are a good reputable company to use as long as you are patient!!

Good review, we brought a car from car craft in Thurrock and had an awful time with the aftersales care. I won't be buying a car from them again. It took ages to sort it out. Car is lovely though just shame about the service.x
