Escape from the rat race. (For a while).

Advantages: recharge batteries and do something different
Disadvantages: financial strain, re-adjusting afterwards

Down-sizing and career breaks have become increasingly more common in the 30's and upwards age groups in recent years. I have spent much of the last thirteen years working in the financial markets in London and in the last five years have seen two colleagues permanently leave very senior positions, one to set up as a photographer and the other moved to Cornwall to work on boats. Quite a change from their city jobs but both felt it was the right thing ...
...do something less permanent, a career break could be an option. I did this in 2004 and my review is based on my own experience.

==Objectives==

It is not wise to rush into a decision to take a career break, not least because of the temporary drying up of regular funds that you will need to ensure you are financially prepared for. So before you do anything else make sure you have the finances sorted, a clear reason for ... more

Do the Benefits beat the general monotony?

Advantages: Great pay and benefits, fantastic flexibility, new uniform better, promotion opportunities
Disadvantages: Monotony of a job at Tesco, antisocial/rude customers

designed primarily for students but I know that staff who are not students can apply for transfers too, should they wish or need to move elsewhere in the UK. Another wonderful thing about Tesco is that they offer provision for lifestyle breaks and career breaks. Lifestyle breaks can be for a period up to 3 months whilst career breaks are no less than 3 months. I have decided to work abroad at an American summer camp this year and Tesco lifestyle breaks has given me the opportunity to do this. *~Uniform~* The uniform used to involve a terrible blue plaid shirt and dark blue trousers (or a skirt) which really did not complement your figure. The new uniform, introduced spring/summer 2008 was much better fitting with blue or red tops and dark blue trousers. I definitely prefer it! *~Promotion and Graduate Opportunities~* At my store many ...

How many words a minute can you do

Advantages: I find they have quite a lot of work, rates of pay are not bad and you know exactly what you are getting
Disadvantages: temping isn't for everybody

Once again, I find myself trawling around the temping agencies in Coventry and signing on with some of them and handing out my CV left right and centre. I had a career break to bring up my family, and now Adam has started school full time I want to have a few hours a week work as I don't want to be at home all day, will only sit on the computer all day and not do any housework, so may as well get paid for the pleasure. I only want to work school hours during term time, so I am quite limited as to the placements that I can go out on. I have temped twice before (2 separate periods in my life) and Brook Street was the first Agency that I went back to. Let me take you through the registering process. First of all you call in (most of the time you don't need an appointment). You will be seen by a friendly Recruitment Officer ...

Review of Brook Street - Recruiment Agency

VT Education and Skills

Advantages: A huge company with a wealth of knowledge and experience
Disadvantages: A huge company who thinks as staff as numbers

amazed at the fact that we began our career in the company with 25 days annual leave (as well as bank hols), this can be topped up to 32 with length of service. In addition to this the company runs 2 share save schemes and has a range of 'above required' maternity/paternity/illness benefits and some extra little perks such as discounted health club membership and money off electrical items. Flexi time was practiced widely throughout or 150 man office and career breaks and secondments were encouraged to promote our individual growth. The team I originally joined was commissioned to publish educational reading for 16-19 year olds, it was a very interesting and varied job. The restructure was forced to happen because two of our largest connexions contracts went back into management by their local councils and this left the company ...
