Manufacturer's product description

The Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) was a principal figure in 20th-century Scandinavian music - his work progressive in style and technique. In this biography he emerges as an energetic individual - more dynamic than the popular image of him as a dreamy country boy who rose fom poverty to become Denmark's most influential composer. The text offers a subtle analysis of the composer's complex personality and shows that far from being provincial and naive, Nielsen was well-read widely travelled and deeply immersed in European culture.

The man who invented the 20th Century
Review of The Man Who Invented the 20th Century - Robert Lomas by  Lightstars

Advantages: A new piece of truth
Disadvantages: None

...There is a book telling maybe an incredible for many, nevertheless true story. It is the story of Nikola Tesla. The book is “ The Man Who Invented the 20th Century”, by Robert Lomas (Great Britain engineer and teacher). Nikola Tesla was born in Serbia, at Smjlian, in a region named Krajna, near Belgrade, in the XIX century. He was a Genius, one of the greatest inventors and scientists in the 19th20th century. Here I am commenting, in good part, this optimum book, but I feel I must add something mine, too, since I have studied about Tesla, in the way you will be able to glimpse in the following… At the end of the ‘800, when he had already found out many interesting discoveries in the electromagnetism field, he went to America and began to work with the “great” Thomas Edison. During... Read review

Mammoth Book of 20th Century Science Fiction
Review of Mammoth book of 20th Century Science Fiction Volume Two by  Martinscholes

Advantages: Some real gems
Disadvantages: Some dross

...The book, The Mammoth Book of 20th Century Science Fiction is edited by David G. Hartwell. It boasts on the front cover: that it is: "The biggest and best science Fiction Anthology Ever Published". And there, as they say, is the rub. Is it? Although I acknowledge that there are a great many good science fiction stories in this anthology, I would have to argue against it being the best. And as for the biggest? Well, Asimov's Before the Golden Age (volumes 1 to 4) is a worthy contender for this title, I would have thought. And the best? It cannot be. Why? Because as Hartwell states in the introduction: "I would like to acknowledge the significant presence of John W. Campbell, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke and all the other science fiction writers who are not reprinted in this book." Therefore the correct... Read review

It's your decision but know all the evidence
Review of Cosmos (The Story of Cosmic Evolution, Science and Civilisation) - Carl Sagan by  Kram_Eniarrol

Advantages: Scientific evidence has alot to say
Disadvantages: We need to consider these thing for ourselves - NOW

...species and another during the process of evolution. 38 The Java ape-man was discovered in 1891 by Dr. E. Dubois. The scientific evidence for the Java ape-man consisted of a small piece of the top of a skull, a fragment of a left thighbone, and three molar teeth. This was gathered over the period of a year, from approximately seventy feet of rock in an old riverbed. Controversy and division among the world’s leading scientists surrounded the discovery. Prof. Virchow said ‘there is no evidence at all that these bones were part of the same creature.’ Even Dr. Dubois later reversed his own opinion and his final conclusion was that the bones were the remains of a gibbon. 39 The Neanderthal man was first discovered at the beginning of the 20th century in a cave in Neanderthal valley in Germany. He was portrayed as being... Read review
