Advantages: gripping, thrilling read. Disadvantages: does sometimes stray slightly from the plot
...In my eyes, CarlosZafon is one of the most exciting novelists of the last few years. This novel has everythin that i believe good novel should have. Packed full of suspense, romance and also briiliantly intertwined with the history of the spanish civil war and the way in which it affected thousands of families. The book begins with a young boy living in barcelona being taken to the library of forgotten boks with his father to choose a book. He chooses ' the shadow of the wind' by Julian carax. However, this one moment in time changes his life forever when it is discovered that he is not the only one who wants the book. I fully reccomend this book to anyone who is interested by spanish history or anyone who is just looking for a fabulously gripping read. You will not be able to put it down....

Advantages: Amazing story, sub plots, and characters Disadvantages: You wont be able to put it down until you finish it!
...The Shadow of the Wind is quite literally one of my favourite books! I first bought it about a year ago, and once I started reading it, I could not put it down! The characters and their stories are both complex and mesmirisig, and the book itself has so many layers and twists and turns. The main thing I enjoyed about this book (apart from it being beautifully written and what I have mentioned above) was how the story was so original, unlike one I had ever read before, and the fact that it was set after the war in beautiful Barcelona was also a plus as Zafon depicts the scenery magnificently. Unfortunately I lost my first copy of this book, however I loved it so much I had to go out and buy it again! I definitely reccomend it!...
