A little while ago you might remember (you probably won't!) I wrote an op on Wonder WheelsAlloy WheelCleaning Kit ... which I raved about. But if you can also remember, there was no warning on the packet with consideration to your clothing. The upshot of this was a letter to Tetrosyl who make the kit for Wonder Wheels - who very kindly sent me, by way of apology a box full of their car products. Nice one! What I'm driving at here (no pun intended) is I am now in the process of doing op's on those prodcts that I have tested out from this cheerful bundle.
I am a bit of a saddo. I love taking time out to wash, wax, polish and shine every part of my little Green Machine (my pet name for my 106). The first product that I want to review for you is Carplan's Black Trim Wax - which is not some sort of beauty salon regime, but is applied to the mouldings of your car to make it look like new. According to the Tetrosyl website this protects your moulding/bumpers from sun fading/bleaching and cracking.
I hadn't used anything like this before - so it was a new experience for us both ...
~~~PACKAGING~~~
This is presented in a rather eyecatching bottle. It's a squat bottle 7" in height and mainly black in colour - as you might expect! It says on the front "Carplan Black Trim Wax - cleans, polishes and restores exterior trim on modern cars". The title is in a striking yellow and the background has a Ford Ka in red. Anyway, the important thing here is it's functional (if you get black runs on a black bottle who cares?) packaging which is easy to grab hold of whilst working.
~~~EASE OF USE~~~
Untwisting the cap, my nostrils are greeted by a familiar waft of ... shoe polish. That is exactly what this reminds me of - which is fine because I find it pleasant actually! With a clean cloth, pour a little out - don't go overboard though because it's hard to be precise when your cloth is swimming in product! A little goes an extremely long way. Best way to do this is wrap 2 fingers in your cloth and dab it on in circular motions, taking extra care not to get this on your main paintwork as it can fire about a bit if you apply sloppily/try to work too fast! Once you have applied this , leave for a short time and then buff up. Oooh lovely.
The instructions on reverse of the bottle suggest the following method of application:
1. Apply sparingly with a soft cloth 2. Cover the whole area at once and leave for a few minutes 3. Buff to a high lustre
It also recommend that you do not apply to : tyres, pedals, steering wheel and controls for safety reasons ... but you aren't really that daft anyway are you? (this is the same girl who used pledge on the gear knob and nearly came a cropper!)
Be careful not to knock this over whilst working - your drive will be redecorated in a matter of seconds in black streams.
~~~WHAT DO I THINK OF THIS~~~
I think I would definately buy this (I know this was a freebie but it's going to last a long time, you need so little). It's fairly easy to use, but you really do need to take time to apply correctly as it could be disaster on the rest of your paintwork if you "overshoot" the mouldings. My bumpers gleamed and looked showroom new with their deep black finish. It's a bit like writing an essay and underlining your title headings - it just looks neater/finished off! Other products in this range are Triplewax, T Cut colour restorer, Triplewax car shampoo. This bottle was 375ml and I think for the £3.49 price tag it's a good buy.
In my rating though, this has to lose a star because of it's runniness.
Sounds good, but I'm very lazy where my car is concerned. Jackie
