I know from the experience of having my daughter that it's impossible to guess what size nursing bra you might need which makes it almost impossible to buy in advance and even when you do find the right size you will probably find that for a while at least the size you need may go up or down every now and then. It's also very hard to find a bra that is comfortable to wear during pregnancy. After a lot of searching in the shops and online all I had come up with was sleep nursing bras that offer very little suppourt, just before I gave up I came across carriwell bras and I'm so glad I did!
This particular bra is availiable in boots (although they don't sell it in the two stores near to me they do have it in their online shop and it's not sold exlusively online, so some shops must stock it), kiddicare, amazon and other online shops. It comes in black or white and costs between £19 and £25 depending on where you buy from.
You can check out carriwell's promises of what this bra offers here: http://www.carriwell.com/asp/seamless/nursing_bra.asp Basically they say it offers suppourt, comfort, style, quality, a good fit and function and convience, all in a bra that is soft and stretchy enough to still fit well even when your cup size varies a few sizes up from normal. This bra has clips on each side to release the drop cups, has no underwire (underwire can be painful when pregnant or breast feeding and some people believe it inhibits milk production) and is seamless for comfort. It not only has three different hook and eye fastenings on the back to adjust size, but also comes with a free bra extender too. The bra comes in small, medium and large sizing rather than traditionalk bra sizing and every place I have seen selling the bra has a chart availiable for you to work out which size is best for you.
I ordered my bra from amazon and it arrived fairly quickly. I was happy to find when I opened the package up that the material the bra is made from really is lovely and soft on your skin. I don't need (at least at the moment) the extenders for the back of the bra, but they are useful to have and could also be used on any other bra with 3 hook and eyes at the back fastening. When it came to wearing the bra, I quickly found myself wishing I had ordered one sooner. After months of being uncomfotable in other bras throughout my pregnancy it was wonderful to finally find something that fitted so well and felt so good I actually forget I'm wearing it half of the time. The only thing I didn't like was the label at the back, it was itchy and irritating and I ended up cutting it out. I'm not sure about the bra being stylish, it's not too frumpy, but you couldn't wear anything low cut (but this seems to be a problem with every nursing bra I have ever come across) without it showing, although you can get away with it looking like a vest top is peaking out rather than it looking like your bra is on show. I find that compared to other bras there are some out there that offer some more suppourt, but I do find this one supportive enough for me. I don't think it would be worth buying something with a littl more suppourt but having to give up all the other features that I love about this bra. The elastic part of the bra that goes underneath your breasts is nice and thick to make up for the lack of underwire and the cups really do well still if you find your cup size increases slightly. When using the bra for breast feeding the whole cup is removed by undoing the clip on that side. The clips are easy enough to undo or fasten with one hand and secure enough to stay put when done up.
Overall I think this bra is fantastic and would reccomed it to others. It works well as a maternity or nursing bra and offers much more than other bras I have found whilst still being in the same price range. I think I will be buying more of these myself as the fact they can cope with a variation in cup size means I can get away with buying one size of bra rather than spending out for two or three different sizes.
