~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Information ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ingredients: 100% Pure Roasted Arabica Beans
Weight: 227g (The average)
Price: ASDA: £1.88 Tesco: £1.88 Other supermarkets range to a maximum of £2 with a few exceptions.
Something i wasn't overly 'enthrawled' about. It's a black box, vaccuum packed with creases which will never go away on it. Theres (Except for ingredients) no nutritional information. It has thin gold/yellow writing which can be illegible to read with the creases caused by bad handing of the cartridge.
It is difficult to open. I needed scissors to open the pack i got, and then it was nigh impossible to seal again. It doesn't come with a tab to cover up the opened packet like most do to retain freshness. So it had to be put in an airtight container which i don't exactly have floating around the place (^^) which i wasn't very pleased about.
So, not very pleased with the packaging.
The only good point is that it does infact have a freshness valve.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Making the Product ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Simple enough, it's the same with any coffee of the same type. IN your cafetiere you put in 7 grammes for each cup in and the desired water, wait about 3-4 minutes for it to brew, press down the filter and serve. With a filter machine, put in the desired water in the tank, the coffee in the filter, and press on (Use the manufacturers instructions). So it's just as simple as any other coffee, which is good =]!
Well, well, well! It seems we have a great coffee on out hands! It tastes full and rich, and not bitter! The taste is full bodied. Did i mention rich? It's a bit of a strong one. BUt velvety at the same time. It's the same from cup to cup, even with each packet you buy. Which, again, is good. It's definately one of my favourite filter coffees. YOu cannot go wrong. It caters for everyone.
The lowest price in mainstream stores listed above is £1.88. WHat is an awesome price. Think about it. Starbucks coffee, £3.88 in most places. Less than half and i actually think it tastes better. Lavazza filter coffee, average at £2.74. The only thing cheaper is the supermarkets 'own brand' coffee (Which may i add taste vile). I know it's still expensive, but you cannot get coffee cheap nowadays. Hence this is a refreshing change to the mainstream price.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Anything to Add ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The coffee does actually lose it's freshness quicker than other coffees i've bought (I have no idea why)
The freeze dried coffee of this make is very hard to dissolve but it is better than other brands of instant coffee.
It's often on special offers in ASDA and Tesco. So i'd wait for it to go on special offer before buying.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And so I conclude ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a league of it's own in the taste catagory. Velvety, smooth, well bodied, and rich. The perfect taste of french coffee, quite easilly for £1.88. Forget the packaging, this product is fabulous. Get it!
I give 4 stars because it lost 1 for packaging. Sorry Kenco, but it needs to be improved!
Advantages: Good taste,reasonably priced Disadvantages: none
Carte Noire is made by the Kenco coffee company and this one is made specifically to be used in cafetieres and filter coffee makers, although you can buy it as a freeze dried instant coffee too. Just two choices in the ground coffee range, which are regular and decaffeinated. I’m going to tell you about the regular, as I don’t buy decaffeinated coffee anymore. I have tried a few different brands but I just find them way too bitter and prefer not ... ...looking for it on the supermarket shelf, keep your eyes peeled for a rather distinctive black and gold pack with a white label on the front. I have to say it looks quite classy and rich compared to its competitors, although the price is very reasonable indeed.In Safeway I paid just £1.35 for this 227g pack and others are usually between £2 and £3 for the same size package. It wasn’t on special offer at the time either, in case you were wondering.
Advantages: not a bad taste, better as a filter than an instant Disadvantages: the instant is quite tricky to make well.
...wouldn't stretch that far!
Carte Noire make a range of coffee products, including instant granules, which are my area of expertise. My parents both seem to like this coffee, personaly I'm not a big fan.
Pouring boiling hot water onto coffee is a good way of getting it to taste repulsive. A neat solution to this is to add a little milk first, stir in the coffee, then add the boiling water. This works very well with Nescafe, and if you want a really ... ...like it.) The trouble with Carte Noire, is that it doesn't disolve at all well in milk and you end up with bits of coffee floating on the top and refusing to dissolve properly.(even frantic stirring doesn't really solve this.) However, its also a coffee that seems especially prone to getting burned by hot water. After considerable experimentation, I have found it rather tricky to get the coffee properly disolved without it getting a singed taste. ...
...so. So discovering Carte Noire was a godsend. I'd had the instant, and liked it, as much as I like any instant - it's a bit like making yourself as comfortable as possible behind the wheel of a Ford Prefect when you've been a Lamborghini driver all your life. And, one day, walking down the coffee aisle, I spotted the small, rectangular Carte Noire ground coffee packet. Aha, thought I, I'll give it a try. And so I did, and have not thought twice since ... ...can't speak French). Carte Noire is a quintissential French brand. Created in 1978, it is made from Arabica beans and was first marketed and packaged by René Monnier, swiftly becoming the number-one brand in France, a country well-known for its taste in coffee. Its famous black-and-gold colouring is said to symbolise luxury; and its taste is simply divine. An advertising feature in The Times, back in 2005 but still hanging around the Times Online ...
Advantages: rich and sooooo full of flavour Disadvantages: you might just get hooked!!
...It was then that Carte Noire went on special offer at the supermarket and my mum decided we'll try it. Now there are so many different brands of coffee and being no coffee connissuer I just thought they all tasted the same. How wrong I was when I decided to try out this new brand my mum had bought. The flavour is very unique and is best when it's strong, although it's soo nice you could have it any way and it will still taste great. It's a very rich ...
