I have been having a bulky digital camera (Kodak, £165) for a while (since Dec 2004), so two years ago I have been looking for a slim digital camera that can just fit into my jeans pocket or my small handbag. I've been searching through a lot of website for the best deal (price) and for the best looking camera. This Casio - Exilim Card EX-S500 digital camera (white) just came out of the camera market since Sep 2005. So I've set my eye on this camera but it's so expensive and it's about £300 if I buy it in the UK. Since we were going to Germany for holiday in Dec 2005, I decided to wait until then to find out if they will sell it any cheaper there. And I also really wanted the white colour!! It looks more stylish and special than the silver (this is the more common colour) or the orange one, but the white one is difficult to find!
~~~ Where did I buy it at the end and the price!? ~~~
We went to Hamburg (Germany) for our X'mas holiday and we've been walking up and down the street (Hamburg Shopping) to compare the prices. We went to several electronics shops but they don't have the white colour camera that I wanted! After several attempts we came across the big electronics retail shop called Saturn (this is one of the leading consumer electronics retailers in Europe). Saturn has more than 120 stores in Germany and 175 in eight European countries!
I paid EUR299 (£202) for this white Casio - Exilim Card S500 digital camera!! Yeah saved myself about £100!!
~~~ What's inside the box? ~~~
Camera, charging cradle (the standing type charger), AC adaptor, rechargeable Lithium ion battery, pc lead (with USB), AV out lead, instruction booklet and camera strap (to strap around your wrist).
It would have been nice if they include the protective camera case, protective screen sticker (just incase you scratch the TFTLCD screen) or a SD card.
~~~ How to charge up your camera? ~~~
First of all, you need to get your camera battery charged up first!! Slide open the battery flap then input your battery into the slot (make sure the positive side and the negative side of the battery matches) then put your camera into the charging cradle, connect the power lead and then plug it into the power socket! The little red light (from the charging cradle) will come on then wait for about 3-4 hours (if you like you can leave it on longer). When the light turns green, you are ready to start shooting!
~~~ Instructions ~~~
1. only take a second to turn on the camera, just click on the top (small) power button of the camera (Super fast!!). 2. it will ask you to set up the time and the date. 3. you need to set up the image size (quality), just click the little menu button then a screen will come up just choose the quality (use the button on the bottom right-hand side navigate). 4. you can also setup the quality of movie (HQ, Normal or Long play).

~~~ Verdict ~~~
I am very happy with this camera and am still using it! I will not leave my house without it!!
Advantages: Robust, easy to use, looks great, large high quality screen, Best Shot scenarios Disadvantages: Could come with SD card / protective case
Another one of my toys, I bought this while I was abroad on holiday two years ago. I paid extra for a set of add-ons (1/2GB sd card, mini tripod, case, spare battery), which I won't discuss in this review (since you would have to get these separately).
The camera itself fits nicely in the palm of your hand, and is a beauty to work with. It's a 5 megapixel camera, of which there is now a 10 megapixel version available. it charges via a dock charger, ... ...Things I like about it:
- The camera is small enough to carry around in a pocket
- The screen is fairly large, and shows pictures decently
- The camera takes pictures almost immediately in it's default mode, I've also had a camera which takes a second to take a picture (which is annoying)
- I can walk and take pictures without stopping - and the picture is generally decent! This might be because of the anti-shake function it has
- It has 3x ...
Advantages: Long battery life, Tiny design, Large viewing screen Disadvantages: Hard to handle
I purchased my Casio duty free at the airport in Oct 05 for a reasonable price, I had asked which camera offered a combination of both useable features and a high quality image for an affordable price, this was the camera the sales person suggested.
The camera itself is tiny, easily fitting into the palm of a hand. It boasts a 5 MP image capture which in my experience is more than enough for a general camera user and easy to use features. It comes ... ...as well as a wrist strap which comes in very handy.
The camera uses an SD memory card which can be purchased cheaply as there is only an internal memory of about 16MB, the memory card also makes it easy for printing pictures staight for the card as it is widely recognised in photo printing machines and card reader printers.
There are a number of picture types that can be selected by using the Best Shot feature such as Sepia, B&W, Landscape, Pets, ...
