Needless to say it took every ounce of my male ego to stop myself ... ...I stray from the point.
This is a great little camera for anyone that is making the jump from a point and shoot to a SLR but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone not willing to play around with the advanced settings.

This is a great little camera for anyone that is making the jump from a point and shoot to a SLR but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone not willing to play around with the advanced settings.

Appearance
Slim, simple, stylish but a little on the heavy side is about how I would describe this little beauty. Its body is all metal giving it a very sturdy and robust feeling (I won't be telling my girlfriends uncle but it can handle the occasional bounce) and giving it a very modern look. With the metal body and small size I found it remarkably easy to drop so using the wrist strap is highly recommended.
Ease of Use
Even with as many options as this camera has I found the menu setup to be efficient and intuitive. Many of the more important functions already have their own buttons on the actual camera and it didn't take me long to figure out how to get to the functions I wanted quickly. If you're a point and shoot photographer then this camera has an scene for just about every condition you might think of taking a photo in. There 34 different shooting modes but I found many of them to be similar and more of a gimmick than actually useful. If you're an SLR photographer or progressing in that direction then you'll love the amount of manual control this camera allows. Also the amount of information you can chose to have displayed on the very well lit screen is great as well.
Photos
I really can't complain about the actual photo quality I got from this camera. Usually if a photo didn't work out is my fault and not the cameras. The auto settings aren't the best but if you play with the manual controls you really can get some great photos in almost any lighting. As usual with these compact cameras, shooting in low light is a challenge. The flash is quite powerful so taking photos in the evening of your fellow travelers takes a bit of getting used to. It does however have a soft flash and power flash mode that are pretty handy.
I didn't use the movie mode much but from what I saw it was pretty average. The movies are recorded in avi format. The movies I took looked a bit jerky, grey and soft/blurry.
Conclusion
I loved it. The different scenes you can choose from and the amount of manual control you have gave me hours of nerdy amusement. As I said at the beginning if you know very little about photography then you'll be better off getting a camera that has better results from the default shooting options (maybe something like the Canon IXUS800).
