    ~~~~ Overview ~~~~ I’ve owned my Casio fx-83WA scientific calculator for almost 10 years now; I purchased it when I started year 8 at secondary school back in 1998, and after years of abuse, including long divisions, algebra and simultaneous equations, its still going strong, even might I add on the original batteries!! The Casio fx-83WA is a scientific calculator intended for advanced Mathematics. It includes a wide range of Mathematical functions, including the standard add, subtract, multiply and divide, and more advanced functions such as cosine, sine and tangent for trigonometry, (full ... more
    The first calculator I every purchased was for my GCSE’s and it was a few models up from this one, boosting features such as being battery and solar powered. On moving to A-levels I thought it would be worth the investment in buying a colour graphic calculator, again by Casio (model CFX 9850). I was told it would be suitable at university, and the fact it could solve equations and draw graphs had the bonus of saving time while solving mathematical problems. When I arrived at university to do Mechanical Engineering I thought it would be the perfect tool. To my disappointment and waste of timing ... more
    In a quick glance around the site earlier on today, exploring what’s new in the Community Centre and any new members that might have joined us, I came across one of the most unusual categories I’ve ever seen on Ciao. Whilst discovering in which areas one can receive 1p per read, I came across this little beauty. Calculators. To say I never knew it existed was an understatement; I hadn’t even seen the category ‘Electronic Accessories’ before today. But it filled me with inspiration and intrigue, and so, I decided to write an opinion on it. I’ve had my fx-83WA ... more
    Advantages Advantages All you need for GCSE.
    Disadvantages Disadvantages Runs on batteries alone.
    My previous Casio calculator lasted my four years and when it came to a replacement, just in time for the GCSEs I decided I would take the safe bet, take advice from my maths teacher and buy the renowned (in my school anyway) fx-83WA, much heralded by a certain Welsh maths teacher (private joke). I like this calculator because it has an extra line at the top which you type all your calculations in, so you can see what you have typed. This means calculations such as area or volume can be done in one. This also allows you to retrace your steps using the "< REPLAY >" button and alter a number or ... more
    Advantages Advantages It knows more about maths than you could ever hope to
    Disadvantages Disadvantages It doesn't do much except calculate
    The fx-83WA should make the boys at Casio rightly proud. They really have outdone themselves with this one. Not only does it do that most laborious task that fills every 16 year old's life we like to call maths efortlessly, quickly and well (which is more than you can say for most maths teachers)...(ok and students, I guess not all of us are perfect) but it also makes it fun. Maths? Fun? Just from a calculator? These are just a few of the cries I hear my schizophrenia calling to me as I write that sentence but yes maths really can be fun with the help of the Casio fx-83WA. If it wern't for ... more
