I am reviewing the Casio FX-570MS Scientific Calculator, a Button-type battery operated calculator with 401 Functions, 2-Line Display and 10+2 Digits.
What's good about it? Well almost everything. Let's see some details.
As I said it has a two lines display which is helpful when ... ...the second line while you're starting a new calculation.
It comes with slide-on hard case which protects the side where the screen is but can also be slided backwards so there is no chance to lose the cover.
Inside the cover there is, printed, a table with a summary of all the conversion functions that the calculator can do. For example if you don't remember how many inches is a centimeter you just look inside the cover and check where ... more
I'm aware of the fact that there isn't really much to say about a scientific calculator in a consumer review... however this model of Casio has served me well for so many years and faultlessly that it deserved a couple of lines.
I am reviewing the Casio FX-570MS Scientific Calculator, a Button-type battery operated calculator with 401 Functions, 2-Line Display and 10+2 Digits.
What's good about it? Well almost everything. Let's see some details.
As I said it has a two lines display which is helpful when doing calculations since you can see the previous entry/result in the second line while you're starting a new calculation. It comes with slide-on hard case which protects the side where the screen is but can also be slided backwards so there is no chance to lose the cover. Inside the cover there is, printed, a table with a summary of all the conversion functions that the calculator can do. For example if you don't remember how many inches is a centimeter you just look inside the cover and check where "in->cm" is and what's his number (in this case 01 in a list from 01 to 40), on top of the list it is explained the buttons that you have to press to make the conversion (shift conv 01-40) so now you know that you have to enter the inches you want to convert in cm first, then press SHIFT CONV 01 and easy enough you get the conversion of your desired measure.
Thanks to the table printed in the back of the cover I really never had to read the manual of the calculator because you won't need to memorize how to activate conversion functions. In the cover there is also another list of 40 common constants which are often hard to remember (especially at high school) and that you can view by pressing the "const" button and their related number in the list. Example... you don't remember that Avogadro's Number is equal to 6.022×10^23? No problem, just have a look at the list, you find NA (symbol of avogadro's constant) at the position 24 of the list so all you have to do is press "constant" and enter 24, press "="... and on the screen will appear your constant.
This calculator served me for 5 years of school and is still serving me now at University. It's very easy to learn to use it and you will hardly need to have a look at the manual (personally I've never opened it).
It fell on the floor a few times and never had any problems afterwards so it's quite sturdy too. It's made of plastic afterall.
It also features: Fraction calculations Integration calculations Combination and Permutation Statistics (STAT-data editor, Standard deviation, Normal distribution calculations, Regression analysis) Base-n calculations / conversions Logical operations Complex number calculations CALC memory Engineering symbol calculations 40 scientific calculations 40 metric conversions(20 conversion pairs) 9 variable memories
Keep in mind that It's not a graphic calculator so you won't be able to see graphs of functions but that's not something that everyone needs (I also have a graphic calculator but since I rarely used the graph functions I now only use this one).
What's also very important is the price. This calculator is relatively cheap, quite affortable and easy to find. I could see this model in every shop selling electricals for a price between £10 and £15.
If you have the need of a scientific calculator without graphic functions this model is the one I suggest to everyone for easyness of use and practicality (the size is about 3"x6"x0.5").
Advantages: Easy to use, very durable, great battery, stylish Disadvantages: Lack of features for advanced users
I have had my CasioFX570W for almost 5 years now and it has been a superb calculator that I have used very frequently. I have obviously used it at school for Maths and Statistics, but it also is a superb calculator to use around the house just to add up simple numbers. I have not had any problems with it at all and it has been a reliable companion!
**Features**
Obviously this is a scientific calculator and therefore has most of the features that you need for mathematics. Obviously it can add, multiply, subtract etc but other features include:
Standard Deviation
Trigonometry
Logarithms
I'm pretty sure it has many other features, but I have never had to use them and threw the instruction manuals away some years ago!
Compared to the latest calculators, the range of features is not brilliant, but it is ...
