I bought the Casio G-Shock GW 002E IVER watch a couple of years ago and have not regretted it.

It cost me about £70 and I wear it all the time, however I've seen it selling for around £55. In my job I get a bit of rough and tumble and the watch has withstood the knocks without any visible signs of damage. The new resin build is much lighter and more durable than the old steel G-Shocks.

The big selling points for me were the Waveceptor atomic radio updated timekeeping and the Tough Solar battery recharging. Every night, well the early hours of the morning actually, the watch calibrates its time via radio transmitters located all over the world. Being solar powered you never have to worry about getting new batteries or it breaking down on you when you most rely on it. There is a dial on the face which monitors the power of the battery and I've never had to worry about it running out, even on a series of night shifts.

The backlight on this watch is really clever as well. If you are in the dark and you lift your wrist to check the time, it intuitively switches on its backlight for a few seconds without you having to press a button.

This watch has all the standard extras such as 200 metre water resistant, stopwatch, calender (which is displayed below the time) and a world timer – keeping you informed of times of various cities around the world, in case you travel a lot this is very handy.

And I suppose the most important thing about a watch is how it feels and looks. It is very light and never rubs on my wrist and, even though it is a resin build, does not look too cheap.

The only thing I could gripe about, and this is very insignificant, is the buckle is a little fiddly when taking the watch off.

I recommend this watch if you don't want to spend the earth but still have a G-Shock with all the necessary features and durability.
