I really love this camera. It has recorded most of my best moments in my life for nearly one and a half years. The functions are easy to use, user friendly and take no genius to figure out how to use them. It has been my first digital camera and I bought it at quite a bargain of just about 150 quid, with 256MB SD card, mini tripod, casing, 2x rechargeable AA battery and its charger.
The picture is up to standard although somehow I find that the quality of pictures taken is much more affected by the skills of the photographer rather than the camera itself. Basic photo-taking skills apply with this camera. Shoot the object, half press to get the lense into focus and then fully press for a good few second to ensure a perfect capture.
This camera has a quick start up time and there is no lagging interface when changing from recording to viewing mode, which is easily done by pressing one of the two buttons at the back of the camera. It is also easy and quick to get to other functions needed. I basically can use the camera straight away after a day or two playing with it without manual. For those who need some guidance, the manual is given with the camera. The brief manual as papercopy and the detail manual in the CD provided.
This 4 megapixel camera allow you to capture a full A3 potrait. It comes with 3.2 optical zoom and 4x digital zoom. The optical zoom works satisfactorily for me me although sometimes I need to make some adjustment as the lense will not focus. The digital zoom is useless as it makes the picture blurry and fragmented and the viewfinder is on the smaller size.
There is a movie option but there is no way that the voice can be recorded through this camera. But the quality is still satisfactory as it creates MPEG movie at 15 frames per second.
This camera is connected to the computer by USB devices. It is easy to set up and you don't need to install anything to the computer as it will come up as enternal memory devices. Transfer of photo is very convinient and easy. No hassle at all.
Holding this camera in the hand - the size is just a bout right. It is not too bulky or too slim. The wrist strap help to maintain control over the camera. This camera has a strong built and is actually quite a durable camera considering the fact that it has endure some rough tumbling and fallen off a few times with just a few chip and scratches.
After talking to a few friends with great interest in photography, we all came into one conclusion that this camera is really suitable for first timer in digital photography considering its feature, user-friendly manouvre and quality.
Although I have upgraded my camera to another casio with more advanced feature, this camera is still in my family for the superb picture and easy to use functions. I simply love it!
Advantages: Incredible Clear Pictures, Great Design, Simple to Use Disadvantages: Slightly sluggish uploading pictures to PC
...week holiday. the software from Casio is not great and a little outdated. I found editing my pictures quite hard and the downloading speed can be slow. However I do tend to download about 100 at a time so its not too bad.
The movie feature doesnt have sound but is stil handy, I didnt find this a problem as I didnt buy the camera for this purpose. Its not a video camera and doesnt pretend to be. If its an important feature to you buy a video camera.
... ...with others in its range that are far more expensive. It is very easy to use and navigate ( I barely looked at the manual and have had no problems ). Its features are good for a camera of its class and most importantly the pictures are of an incredible quality. ...

POST PURCHASE COMMENTS (25-12-03)
From the moment you first look at this camera you can't help but think: WOW! Sleek design, metal body, small and perfectly formed. I purchased this camera from PC World, because I actually wanted to see what it feels like, handles like and most of all - it's desirability factor: what it looks like in the hand. Believe me, I wasn't disappointed.
I then picked it up - ... ...button. Underneath, he Casio QV-R40 takes Secure Digital (SD) and Multimedia (MM) Cards and has, on board 10MB, of its own internal storage space - easily transferable between cards and internal. These share the compartment with the 2 AA Nickel Metal Hydride batteries which have considerable life for such a powerful camera (I have had 4 days regular usage and not needed to recharge).
Okay, so I said there aren't many buttons... that doesn't mean ...

Advantages: Great quality at great price Disadvantages: Good quality pics take up too much memory
Excellent all round camera for it's cost. great quality pics, even with zoom.
Pictures take up too much memory tho, at 1.8mb each at full quality.... suggest you use the biggest MMC you can find (256mb).
Sometimes you have to wait a few seconds for the flash to charge up again but that's not too much of a problem unless you need to take loads of photos immediately after another.
easy to load to PC even for a novice! even presents them nicely for ...
