The screen is of adequate size to see all the details and the selection wheel is clearly labelled and easy to use.
As far as using the camera goes there is a very ... ...to send it back to Casio for repair however this went smoothly and I was only without camera for a week and was repaired under warranty. Also the screen has started looking scrambled when the battery is low, however this is resolved by switching the screen off and then back on. Also when taking photos if you do not pre-focus, i.e. press the shutter half way down, the camera can sometimes take up to around 1 second to focus and take a picture. more

The case is all metal and feels very sturdy. Mine has had several knocks and still works fine with no visible marks. The screen is of adequate size to see all the details and the selection wheel is clearly labelled and easy to use.
As far as using the camera goes there is a very simple point and click setting where everything is automatic. There is also a fully manual mode if required where the user can set exposure time from 1/2000th of a second to 2 seconds, as well as a choice of aperture size and manual focus. The flash can also be changed from automatic to no flash, fill flash and red-eye reduction flash. Filters are also built in B/W, sepia, red, green, blue, yellow, pink, and purple. There are also options to enhance red, green, blue or skin tones. Other options allow setting of ISO, White balance, metering, saturation, contrast and flash intensity.
Other modes include night mode, video camera mode, this has no sound but you can use the 3x optical zoom whilst filming, best shot and playback mode. Also there are the standard time delay photo but also a time delay which takes 3 photos consecutively so that the best photo can be selected afterwards without having to go back and forward to the camera each time.
Best-shot mode has several pre-set camera setups which allow the best results for different photo types. For example there are settings for portraits which show an outline on the screen to show where the subject should be placed in the picture. There are also modes for floral fields, pets, running water, splashing water and more. 33 built in total and you can add your own settings. One of the more unusual of these is a pre shot mode where you can shoot a background and then pass the camera to someone else to take your picture with that background shown as an overlay guide to how you want the picture to look. There are also several split shot modes where you can stitch two photos together to allow for pictures showing everyone in your party, including the photographer.
Another point to mention is that there is a usable viewfinder which can be used instead of the screen which greatly increases battery life, a feature which is sometimes missed from digital cameras.
As far as picture quality goes this is excellent, I personally use the highest quality and have no complaints. The 3x optical Zoom has no loss in quality however the digital zoom shows some graininess, although, this is the same with every other digital zoom I have used.
The main problems I have come across are as follows: The internal memory is around 11mb which allows for 5 high quality photos, however SD cards are relatively cheap and a 256mb card holds around 150 pictures at highest quality or several more at lower resolutions. The extending lens on mine did break and I had to send it back to Casio for repair however this went smoothly and I was only without camera for a week and was repaired under warranty. Also the screen has started looking scrambled when the battery is low, however this is resolved by switching the screen off and then back on. Also when taking photos if you do not pre-focus, i.e. press the shutter half way down, the camera can sometimes take up to around 1 second to focus and take a picture.
Overall this is an excellent camera that is excellent value for money and I have not heard of anyone else having the lens or screen problems that I have, perhaps it's just I dropped my camera one too many times. This is the only reason I have rated the camera good and not excellent.

...The QV R4 by Casio is a fine piece of equipment, with a strong stainless steel casing giving it a classy look. A flat-to-the-surface control dial acts as the mode selector while the easily positioned function keys make learning to operate the camera quite simple for even the newest of newcomers to this technology. The settings are easy to navigate and have sharpness, contrast, saturation, white balance and quality controls included.
When the camera's ... ...is trimmer overall than the Casio QV-R4, which is the 3 mega pixel (3 million pixels) version, whereas this is the 4 mega pixel (4 million pixels) model.

's new levels of build quality. New for Kodak, that is. With the exception of the little LS420 model, other Kodaks have been stout and robust but, even more so, death-to-appearance-of-quality plastic. This one doesn't quite have the same cast-iron feel as a Canon Digital Ixus, say, or the CasioQV-R4, but it's still a giant leap in the right direction.
Regrettably, the switchgear's a step in the wrong direction. The mode dial on the back also serves as a power switch, and its chrome-plated surface looks stylish, but contains etched symbols indicating the various modes also in chrome. Which makes making them out difficult, unless the light is perfectly angled.
And Kodak's given in to the luring appeal to use one of those irritating mini-joysticks as a four-way navipad-come-OK button. The directional movements are ok, but getting that ...

at some of its rivals, firstly the Kodak LS 443 or the CasioQV-R4, costs a little more, looks okay and have a superior spec. Or the HP Photosmart 812, similar spec (but 7x digital zoom) it costs much less but it doesn?t look ?pocketable?. Or the Canon Digital Ixus V3, this is the only camera that looks better in my opinion, but it?s a shame that it only has a 2x optical zoom lens and is only a 3 Megapixel camera, you can pick this up for just over £300 if you look hard enough! You could also go for the KD-500z or look for a KD-310 (which I have only seen on the internet), a 3 Megapixel equivalent.

, left and right arrow keys. Finally on the face back there are the PLAY and RECORD functions for quick and easy recording and viewing, incidentally pressing the record button twice activates the movie mode... very handy as it creates an MPEG file of upto 15fps on the media selected.
On top there is an analogue zoom selector (upto 3.2x optical, 4x digital) which is of a nice size and doesn't seem to get in the way and is easily accessable without too much fiddling, in the centre there is the focus lock/shutter button.
Underneath, he CasioQV-R40 takes Secure Digital (SD) and Multimedia (MM) Cards and has, on board 10MB, of its own internal storage space - easily transferable between cards and internal. You will appreciate the quality produced by the QV-R4 as soon as you view your images. This cam is sized right and priced right. It is so easy to use that it's hard to believe it is so feature-rich! The compact configuration of the high-performance QV-R4 camera makes it perfect for recording those special moments whenever and wherever they happen. LSI system provides lightening-fast response of about 0.01 second, which means there is virtually no time loss between the point you press the shutter release and when the image record is beginning. A simple, stylish stainless steel body provides QV-R4 with a high level of durability and a feel of quality. Modes are selected using a flat-profile dial, and all function keys are carefully positioned for easy, intuitive operation. Images can be stored on an SD memory card, and the camera also includes built-in flash memory that allows recording even when a card is not loaded or when the memory card is full. The press of a button generates HTML files that arrange images into a handy album format. An album can be published on a Website or printed. You can select the album layout you want to use, as well as background color and other options.
