The Casio SF-3600 ER is essentially a simple unit - and it's very easy to use. If you need an organiser which links all the various functions together, (for example, a clock display which indicates whether you have any appointments for today, etc.) this one's not for you! It is, after all described as a "diary", and operates pretty much like its paper counterpart (although I've yet to hear of a paper diary which offers ... ...pocket easily, in terms of both size and price (there's also a version at twice the price which adds an accounts facility). At only a couple of pounds more than a paper diary, it offers a lot of advantages, the most obvious one being that you don't need to buy a new one every year (OK, there are batteries, but these should last around 2 years!).

I recently took over as secretary of a brass band I play trombone with. I soon realised I could use some sort of electronic organiser to help me keep on top of all the contact numbers, meetings, engagements and so on. In an ideal world, it would have been nice to go out and buy one of the new PDAs, but that would have been stretching the band's budget a bit far!
Fortunately, I happened to come across Casio's SF-3600 ER digital diary for only £7.95 - this is a pocket sized unit with 64KB of memory on board. On offer is a telephone directory (which also stores mobile, fax, pager and e-mail details!), a scheduler (with the ability to set warning alarms), a to-do and memo list as well as the usual clock and calculator functions (including a currency converter). There's also a switchable backlight should you need to use the diary in the dark, and a secret function which allows you to set a password if you wish to keep others in the dark!
What really surprised me was just how much information 64KB can actually store! I currently have around 100 entries in the phone book, with quite a number of appointments and memo/todo items set and still have to pass the 3KB used mark!
