I usually use Garnier Nutrisse but fancied a bit of a change and if the truth be known I'm a bit of sucker for new hair colours. Whilst I'm not a big fan of L'Oreal (due to those dreadful "I'm Worth It" adverts), I decided to give this one a go mainly because it promised glossy hair with frosted tones. . I bought mine in Boots as I had some Advantage Card points, Also it was on special offer at £4.40, but it normally retails at £5.99. I've also seen this stocked in Superdrug. It comes in a pretty varied range of colours from blondes to reds to browns, although Boots only had about 4 shades left.
I decided on Iced Latte because the colour wasn't too dark. I sometimes find that if I use light brown my hair always comes out a lot darker than the picture on the box - my hair would probably be black if I used anything verging on dark brown!!! The packaging was pretty nice and
was more unusual than any of the other products on offer. Also as L'Oreal actually produce colours for use in salons I expected it to be good.
*****The Contents*****
Inside the box you will find :-
1 48ml tube of Creme Colourant 1 72ml tube of Developer Creme 1 precision tip applicator 1 bottle of Nutri-Shine Conditioner 1 pair of professional gloves 1 Instruction Leaflet
****The Claims****
It will cover first greys effectively - mines definitely not in that category lol. That it will leave you with a natural looking colour and shimmeringmulti tones. As it contains no ammonia that it will be gentle and caring - leaving your hair satin soft & voluptuous (????) It is recommended that you should only use it if your hair is blonde to light brown. It contains Aloe Vera and Green Tea
****The Proof in the Hair Colour is in the Dying****
Before I even attempted to use this I read the instructions thoroughly. The leaflet advised that you should do a strand test. I've never done one in my life and didn't on this occasion either, although I would never advise anyone else to act so rashly!!
The first step to being transformed to Penelope Cruz is to wet your hair and then towel dry thoroughly. You will then need to push the colourant creme tube into the pre-cut slot at the rear of the box. You are now ready to prepare your colour. This is done by adding the creme colourant to the developer creme, screwing on the precision applicator tip and doing a Tom Cruise in Cocktail round the kitchen by shaking the bottle until the contents are thoroughly mixed together.
I never dye my hair in this way as I find it extremely messy, I usually mix it together in a bowl and use a brush to apply the colour - luckily for me my Mum was on hand to wield the brush for me. The smell as you apply it isn't the most pleasant, a bit of a cross between rotten egg with a fruity overtone, although if I'm honest it doesn't make your eyes water unlike some others brands on the market.
It advises that if you've coloured your hair in the last three months you should start by applying the colour to your roots, you then need to work it through the rest of your hair. If your lucky enough not to have grey hair you only need to leave it on for for 20 minutes. If you do happen to have grey you'll need to leave it on an extra 5 minutes to ensure that all the grey is covered.
After waiting the correct time it was off to the bathroom to rinse off the colour. You'll need to add a little warm water to your hair and then work it up into a lather. Once done you'll need to rinse your hair until the water runs clear - I found that this product rinsed out really easily and even before I applied the conditioner my hair felt quite soft. You then apply the Nutri-Shine Conditioner and leave it to work for 2 minutes. This smelt really nice, quite sweet with an undertone of pear drops (sounds gross but is actually very nice). Time for another rinse, which was a nightmare for me as my daughter decided to help and I ended up having more water down my ears than in my hair lol. Job done, my hair felt really soft and smelt really nice.
****The Result****
The colour is really rich and quite dark (good job I picked a light shade). After straigtening my hair I noticed that it was really shiny, although I haven't noticed it shimmering yet. The biggest surprise for me is that it covered every single bit of grey, a very big plus point!!!! Several people have commented on how nice the colour is and how healthy my hair looks which is a real plus.
****Marks out of 10****
All in all a good product albeit a bit messy. The reason I found it a messier than my usual product is because you have to wet your hair first. The colour also has a far runnier consistency than what I'm used to . I found some dye dripped down my face, this was even though Mum was colouring my hair for me. Another minus is that the applicator is tube shaped so it can be a bit awkward to keep it upright . As the colour is semi-permanent it will fade out in 28 washes, this is pretty good as I find most permanent hair colours will fade within 4 to 6 weeks of applying them. In my opinion Casting Creme Gloss scores a healthy 8 out of 10.
