Manufacturer's product description
Castlewood's removable media drive product, named ORB uses 3.5" removable media with a capacity of 2.2 GB, more than any other product in its category. Additionally, at an impressive 12.2Mbps maximum ORB sustained data transfer rate-the fastest transfer rate of any removable media product available today-is completely "video ready." ORB disks can be used in a variety of applications that require storage of large amounts of large files and digital data, such as music and video editing, graphic design, publishing and multimedia presentations. Information technology (IT) markets are expected to use ORB drives as a way to easily and quickly back up data, and increase PC storage. Castlewood is providing ORB Tools, a feature-rich suite of functions designed to help manage your ORB disks and make backups as intuitive for the novice as the professional. ORB Tools feature: Write Protect, Disk Partitioning and Formatting, Set ORB as Fixed or Removable, a file archive called "tracker," ORB Disk Duplicator, SCSI Mounter, and other useful maintenance functions. The ORB Tools Backup Suite includes 1-Click Backup, Volume Copy, Image Copy and Professional Backup. For the novice, ORB's one-step backup sets a new standard for thoroughness, simplicity and security by automating system disk and file backups. Also, ORB drives use a new design, called "headerless ID," thus eliminating the need for disk formatting.

...I purchased this drive last September from Dabs for £72.47 including P&P and it was delivered very quickly (I have always had good service from Dabs). The drive seems well designed, the metal silver casing seems strong and durable and looks OK too. As already mentioned in other reviews the only possible downside I can see is the bulky plug but the drive is not intended to be used as a mobile storage device so the plug doesn't present a problem when the drive is placed on your desk. The drive size LED on the front is a little pointless, why do you need reminding the drive is 500gb in size - surely it would have been better to just use a normal LED light to show activity or actually show how much space was remaining on the drive.
I installed the drive in seconds, you just need to plug the power cable and the USB cable in and away you go...

Advantages: Fast, high capacity storage. Well built, looks good. 2 year warranty, No fan. Disadvantages: No fan.
...PC with all its partitions so I used something a bit more industrial in strength. I will have to have a look though as the manufacturers web site says the CD also contains encryption, compression and synchronisation tools.

# Conclusion

I bought this drive because it was cheap but had no great expectations. I can safely say I was proved utterly wrong in all my preconceptions. It's built like a tank and feels like a really solid and high quality piece of equipment and looks much better than the picture would indicate. The capacity is good, the speed is great and the price right now is excellent. If you need something for backing up or keeping big chunks of data such as movies, I can't recommend the Freecom 400Gb enough. a 2 year warranty is the icing on the cake....

Advantages: Lots of space for all your gaming needs. Disadvantages: Price, Dust, Missing GB
...My personal experience with the Xbox 360 hard drive has been fairly positive. The ability to store music, films, videos and of course games saves is one that no Xbox gamer should be without. 120 GB of memory is more than enough for the average gamer. The hard drive is well designed to blend with the console perfectly. It is small and easy to store.
However the price is pretty heavy compared to the cheaper 20GB versions. A problem with the memory is the fact that the hard drive does not actually have 120GB, obviously it wouldn't be exactly due to the need for the running files but several GB are actually missing. Regular cleaning is advised as dust tends to collect on the hard drive but a sharp blow into the docking port is sufficient to clear this.
All in all this product is an incredibly useful addition to any Xbox 360 gamers...
