An Eye For An Eye

AdvantagesFascinating tale of bully and victim making you want to read more

DisadvantagesPlot lacking in....something!

"As some of you might already know, Margaret Atwood is one of my favourite authors so it will come as no surprise that I am reviewing another of her books! Despite "Cats Eye" being published back in 1988 and being shortlisted for the Booker Prize; it isn't a book I had read! My boyfriend picked it up for me in a book store and presented me with it - silly really as he knows I'm an Atwood fan so though it was very thoughtful and of course I was ..." Read review

A Story For Everyone To Relate To

Advantagesentertaining, well written adn believable

Disadvantagesit ended

"I am studying a book by Margaret Atwood at school (The Handmaids Tale) so I though I would see what any of her other books are like. I found this book in the school library and thought I would give it a go. I then took it on holiday and read three quarters in under a week. The book was written in 1989 and was short-listed for the booker prize. It is divided into 15 main sections and then into minor chapters through the book. With 421 pages it ..." Read review

Dealing with power in Elaine's mind

AdvantagesGood read, with relative themes

DisadvantagesAudio can get tedious at times

"...studies, I became privy to Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood during my 20th Century Literature module at university. Having not read many female orientated novels, I felt a little sceptical albeit uneasy at reading a so called 'chick flick'. How wrong I was proved. Atwood highlights relative themes to society through her protagonist Elaine, born in Nova Scotia, Canada. The geography of the story is highly relevant, acknowledging and at some instances ..." Cast your eye over this

AdvantagesCompelling and emotionally intense

DisadvantagesA little drawn out towards the and

"If (as I was) you are only familiar with Margaret Atwood through 'The Handmaids Tale', then 'Cats Eye' may surprise you. The same emotional intensity pervades, but the setting is starkly different. Instead of the future, we visit the past and present as Elaine, the protagonist, guides us through her life, which is haunted by the spectre of her friend and tormentor, Cordelia. Set in Canada, the story begins in the present with Elaine returning to ..." Read review

Kids Can Be So Cruel.

AdvantagesIt's realistic. And that's what makes it so sad.

DisadvantagesThe conclusion was a little disappointing.

"Having been recommended this book by a teacher, my immediate thought was that i wouldn't appreciate it. It didn't sound like my style. I was very very wrong. Elaine, a "painter" -no, not an artist- returns to Toronto for her own art exhibition. With returning to the city, her memories of her sad childhood flood back. The story hops back and forth in time, depiciting the earlier, happier days of her unusual childhood, and then later, the days of ..." Read review
