Maine Coon cat

Advantages: Beautiful soft fur, big deeply affectionate and devoted
Disadvantages: May need more dental care as they grow older (special maine coon food prevents this)

We own a young speyed maine coon female. The breed is deeply loving and affectionate, especially in our girl's case with children. She follows the boys everywhere and plays with their soldiers and marbles. The fur is long and silky but seems to tangle and matt significantly less than a persian or ragdoll so needs little care although I prefer to brush once a week or so to reduce shedding (and for a cuddle). She does appreciate the odd bath (which ...
...in your hands. I am more used to scruffing burmese than "Marina" the floating maine coon! Initally shy, the breed become devoted house pets, following their preferred owner around, and quite distinct from other cats aurally in terms of their call which is a chirp like a "BBBRRRR?" ...

The Bagpuss of Cats

Advantages: Great Companions
Disadvantages: None

...and tortoiseshell . Temperament British Shorthairs are an easygoing breed. They do say that this bred isn't very vocal, but my cat (female) contradicts this and is always 'talking to me' as she follows me around the house. I guess with any breed they all have their own individuality. British Shorthairs are wonderful cats for people who work, as they are very happy just to laze around the house while you are out. Some british shorthairs don't ...
...Most breeders/owners of the british shorthair tend to keep them as indoor cats, although I know people who do let them roam, but they are so cute I also know cats that have been stolen if they are allowed to roam freely. At the moment you can expect to pay £300 - £350 for a shorthair kitten, but have a look around every now and then breeders do look to find new homes for their older cats when their breeding/stud days are over. ...

Leopard or a cat ??

Advantages: Fantastic attitude even if it does seem wild
Disadvantages: The meow is crazy

...This review is about the Bengal cat. History --------- The story of how the Bengal breed first started is complicated and complex. In 1871 people would say that the British Shorthair cat was basically a hybrid species. This claim kept on going about various other breeds and in 1963 a lady named Jean Mill brought a leopard which she could do back then and had it inside this cage. She already owned a tomcat that was black and put them together as they ...
...and it formed the first Bengal Bred cat. My Cat --------- In 2001 I saw this advertisement in the local newspaper about a cat which was being sold for just £50 and they claimed he was not settling in with this new home and they needed to stop him being violent towards there other cats. He was a Bengal and I knew they could be as much as £600 each and he was only 9 weeks old. He had a huge pedigree history and had champions throughout his family. ...

You Aint nothing but a Ragdoll

Advantages: Companionship and a friend
Disadvantages: Does not like confrontation

...since. This is about the ragdoll pedigree cat. History -------- This is hard to explain but I have heard one story from the lady who bred my Ragdoll cat and another from a book on the breed. The story which to me sounds most truthful is about a lady named Anne Baker and she had a cat named Josephine in the 1960's. Her cat was treated at the local University and one day when her cat Josephine was involved in this car incident she seemed to have no ...
...acted very much like a ragdoll would do which you buy in the shops. Her theory was that this was due to someone manipulating her cat at the university and was later to be found untrue and this breed like any other can experience pain like normal cats. The rumour is the mother was a Persian cat and the father a Birman. So the name ragdoll was given to them and kept as a reference to the breed. My Cat --------- I have two Ragdoll cats one called Sennelager ...

The Cat That Has Been Domesticated Twice

Advantages: We Love Him
Disadvantages: He Leaves Black Fur Everywhere In The Summer

Our family has had cats ever since I can remember. Then we moved to Liverpool and our cat, Buffy, ran away. My mum looked into getting us a new kitten but we will only take cats from rescue homes and we lived too near a main road for them to let us have one. We then found out that my mum was allergic to cats. I was only little and was very upset. I wanted a cat more than anything! We moved away from the main road to a nicer house but mum would not ...
...Then something amazing happened. My mums friend was adopted by a pregnant cat. This cat moved into his house and he looked after her. She had four kittens, 2 black and 2 tortoiseshell. We fell in love with the little black fluffy one and took him home. His name was Wicca. Wicca is now nearly 3 years old. He is a housecat. We have tried to get him to go outside but he is terrified of the front and back door! He does like to sit and look out of the ...
