...are stronger than others. Cathedral Cheddar is a very strong cheddar cheese, yet is is one of the most lovely tasting, mature cheeses around, with a smooth, texture that you could just leave in your mouth to melt. It is just the best Cheese around at present, why, well i will tell you why. Cheeses are rated between 1 and 5 for there strengths, you have 1 as the least strongest and 5 as the matures, Cathedral comes in at number 4. The Smell. The ...
...a nice strong smell, it is not some of these that are to overpowering and you have to hold your nose whilst you put these on your sandwiches or toast, it is a strong yet, you do not mind the smell. I am trying to explain it as good as i possibly can, but it is very hard for me to do this. I will just say, it is a nice strong smelling cheese that leaves a nice odour in the air, and not a strong stench. The Taste. This is the real selling point of ... Read review

A VERY CHEESEY OP
Review of Cathedral City Mature Cheddar Cheese by flashpointz

Advantages: very tasty, reasonably priced and good for you, very versatile in recipes
Disadvantages: not much

...the taste improves. The Cathedral City brand first leapt into my eye line at a Safeways store about a year ago. They had launched their Mature Cheddar in pre packs of 400g (around a pound, for those of you still non-metric) and had a BOGOF (buy 1 get 1 free) at £1.99. Well, at that price it was certainly worth picking up and trying. (~~They also do ‘Extra Mature’ Cheddar in this Cathedral City range too) It certainly has a ‘bite’ to it. Tastewise ...
...colour (I do not thing Cathedral City offer a Red Cheddar variety yet) and fairly crumbly in it’s texture. But it is the taste that has made it popular and ideal to combine with salad and pickles for a really satisfying ‘Ploughmans’ – or just a nice Cheese and Onion sandwich. My wife has used this in several dishes instead of what is usually recommended – such as the topping for a Lasagne and in Quiches. And I will tell you now – it’s fabulous bubbling ... Read review

Review of Cathedral City Mature Cheddar Cheese by woodnymph

Advantages: Cheesey what....
Disadvantages: NONE.

...cheddar you can get? Well Cathedral City get's my vote!! I've just bought mine at Iceland, and the offer was 2 x 200g blocks of Cathedral City for 2.00. Bargain!! This cheese does seem to nearly always be on offer, in most supermarkets, in double packs! So although it's price is around 2.00 for 200g, you rarely pay that!! What does the packet look like? Well, it's a block of cheese, need I explain. Only difference is wrapper looks 'cloudy' with ...
...Cathedral) Cathedral City is a Pasteurised, rindless cheese, which is matured for 12 months. Made from a special recipe in the West country. It is a hard, golden yellow, closed texture cheese. A cheese for every occasion! It is mature, but mild at the same time. It has depth of flavour, a distinctively 'tangy', full bodied rich flavour. Yet a sharp cheese, that's got a bit of a bite! How do I ... Read review

My choice for my last meal on earth
Review of Cathedral City Mature Cheddar Cheese by sandrabarber

Advantages: Tasty, Versatile
Disadvantages: Expensive, Fattening

...it would have to be Cathedral City Cheddar. We're often told to keep away from cheese because of its fat content. what we are rarely told is that, despite being high in fat, there are many things about cheese that are good for you. Firstly, a certain amount of fat is necessary in everyone's diet, especially in children, so if you eat cheese as part of a general low fat eating regime once a week it won't do you any harm. Secondly, cheese is packed ...
...But back to the Cathedral City. It describes itself as a 'mature yet mellow' Cheddar, and that description is spot on. Often mature Cheddar can have a sweaty sock taste and smell, or can even taste like blue cheese if it's been left to mature for a long time. It can also be very sour on the tongue and, in my case, make the back of my throat actually itch! Cathedral City does none of the above. A pale yellow colour with a mostly smooth but almost ... Mellow Yellow
Review of Cathedral City Mature Cheddar Cheese by starsally

Advantages: It is mellow
Disadvantages: Tastes a bit processed, does not taste mature.

...asked which brand and suggested Cathedral City. I said fine believing that this would be a pretty standard mature cheddar and having a name to go by would make it easier for him in the shop. I was sure that i had had this before but having tasted this I do not think that I have as I am sure i would have remembered it... Ah well... we live and learn! The block of cheese comes packaged in whitish plastic and on the front there is a burgundy coloured ...
...mellow cheddar" and there is a pic above this of a cathedral. I didn't buy it but the Sainsburys website tells me that it costs £4.09 for 600g and there is a sliced version(£2.05 for 200g) and an extra matured version also available(£1.95 for 200g). You can also get a wedge of it instead of a block if you so wish(£1.85 for 200g). On the back there is a little bit of information about the cheese like it is great in sandwiches (matter of opinion) and ... Read review

ITS CHEESY AND EASY
Review of Homepride Pasta Bake by  just.bcoz

Advantages: loads of different flavours, filling and tasty
Disadvantages: none really

...you have done this you should then half fill the empty jar of pasta bake with water, put the lid back on and shake it then add the water to the dish containing the rest of the pasta bake sauce and dried pasta shapes. Once you have all your ingredients in the dish give it a mix so as all the dried pasta is covered in sauce. Then all you have to do is place the oven proof container into the oven and let it cook for 25 minutes. Whilst the pasta bake is cooking in the oven you should then grate 3.5oz (100g) of cheese. You could use any type of cheese you like for the pasta bake, I personally prefer to use Cathedral City Mature Cheddar as it has a full on flavour which compliments the taste of the pasta bake perfectly. Although you could use a milder cheese if you prefer. Once the pasta bake has been in the oven for 25 minutes remove... Read review

Its a Pilgrims choice is it mine?
Review of Pilgrims Choice Vintage Cheddar by  mumsymary

Advantages: good cheese
Disadvantages: none

...I love a good cheddar cheese you get many cheddar cheeses some much better than others a cheddar cheese I have often bought and been satisfied with is a Pilgrims choice cheddar. I have bought Pilgrims cheddar cheese at various supermarkets. Usually Tesco as Tesco is really the easier supermarket for me to visit, I will give you a sample of prices, Cathedral city mature cheddar £7.80 per KG, Cathedral city strong farmhouse cheddar £8.95 per KG. Tesco Caledonian mature cheddar costs £7.76 per KG, Tesco Davidstow costs £7.76 per KG. Pilgrims Choice make cheddars cheeses in creameries in England the Reserve cheese been made in Somerset. Pilgrims choice does not make mild cheddar it makes medium, mature, strong farmhouse and vintage extra strong cheddar. The mature is also available in a pack of sliced or grated Pilgrims choice... Well priced tasty cheese
Review of Sainsbury's Wexford Irish Cheddar by  sandrabarber

Advantages: Good price, great taste, cooks brilliantly
Disadvantages: None

...I didn't want to buy Sainsbury's Wexford Cheddar. I wanted my usual Cathedral City, but when I made it to Sainsbury's last night they were in possession of hardly any cheese at all and I had to pick what I thought would be the best of a bad bunch. Having had Wexford Cheddar on toast for breakfast this morning and thoroughly enjoying every mouthful, I can now report that I made a very good choice indeed. Sainsbury's Wexford Cheddar is classed as a 'medium' strength cheese. It is made in Ireland and matured for 10 months before sale. I paid £1.37 for a 200g piece (almost 50p cheaper than my usual Cathedral City). Packaging: The packaging is very like Cathedral City, in that it's wrapped fairly loosely in thick greaseproof that is sealed at the ends. This gives it much more of a 'real cheese' appearance than those vacuum... Read review
