...Catherine Cookson was born in the Tyne Dock, and her birth place helps provide the background in her many novels.
She is the illegitimate Daughter of Kate, who she believed to be her Sister.
Catherine began writing at the age of 40 with the novel "Kate Hannigan" with great sucess.
Colour Blind, is a story about a white woman who marries a coloured bloke. Then she ends up expecting his child.
Catherine Cookson, was one of the first female authors to write about racism and half caste children, and she does this brillantly.
In the book , the woman is suject to abuse and people ignoring her.
She trys hard not to let it bother her.The man in question starts off as her lodger.
In the film Niamah Cusack, plays the part of the woman brillantly.
The story is very moving and I can recommed anyone to read it....

Advantages: Hmmm, not sure, female insight I guess Disadvantages: There's only so much you can read before it is boring!
...The Sexual Life of Catherine M - Catherine Millet
Muffin has always banged on about Anais Nin to me, and someone else had once mentioned that 'The Sexual Life of Catherine M' was also shocking and explicit if not more so than that of Anais. So when I saw it in Fopp's £3 book section I thought 'oh stuff it… shock me.'
'The Sexual Life of Catherine M' is Catherine Millet's (now a famous publisher and art critic) autobiography of not her life, but the sex life she has had. She had no qualms in anything sexual with men, women, groups and there is even some bestial fantasy's. Mainly like I have said it is autobiographical but some of it is set in dream and fantasy sequences.
There's not really a lot of plot to this book, its like a soft porn (ok maybe verging on hardcore) movie written into a book, like they do with some blockbusters...

Advantages: Best Catherine Cookson novel -ever! Disadvantages: none
...I'm a huge fan of Catherine Cookson and recently read Tilly Trotter.
I was engrosed in this novel and genuinely coudn't put it down! The story is excellent and I was enchanted! An amazing story!
The great thing is that there follows two more novels: Catherine Cookson Married and Catherine Cookson Widowed - you think the titles gives the stories away, but that's not quite true!
I enjoyed "Tilly Trotter" so much, I doubted the follow "Tilly Trotter Married" could live up to the original, but I was not disappointed - even the sequel "Widowed" was equally addictive.
Once you've read the book don't forget to watch the film. It's around three hours long but unlike most adapted films, the producers did not edit half the story out! The film was exactualy how I imagined the characters and scenes to be like - that makes catherine cookson...
