Advantages:

Lack of communication and also very poor communication, installers didn't care, without heating and hot water and damage to property

Ok folks are you sitting comfortably…this is going to be a long story with many twists (or should that be twits) and turns and have your hankies at the ready.

A few weeks back, (on the 18th Feb 2004) we were visited by a very nice gentleman from Northern Gas Heating based in Wolverhampton. He came to see if we could have a new boiler for our central heating system as our old back boiler was 20 years old and was on its last legs (if it was an animal it would have been put to sleep years ago).

So he came and did a good job of advising us what type of boiler we should get and we settles on the Ideal Isar model. So we decided to go ahead and have it done. We agreed with the installation department that it was going to be fitted on the Thursday 4th March 2004.

Now my fiancé is a nurse and I am a teacher. We find it hard to get holidays when we want so my fiancé was lucky to be able to use one of her holidays to get the time of so they could come to install it. Now on Wednesday 3rd March we had a phone call left to call the installation department back. Now we told them to call on the mobile as no one would be in but to no avail they called the house phone. When we both got in that night we heard the message called the installation department only to find out it was shut until 8am the next morning.

The next morning as I was in school my fiancé called them up and they said that they were not coming, as they had to send a part back because it was faulty. OK so they had 3 weeks to examine the parts and they find it faulty on the day before they are due to come and do it. So my fiancé had wasted a day’s holiday and had lost earnings as she get shift allowance as a nurse. It was arranged with the company that they would come on Saturday to fit the boiler unit that was Saturday 6th March 2004. So as I had the weekend off I waited on the Saturday and I waited and I waited some more. Until I got fed up and called the installation department, guess what no answer. So I called again and again. I was getting more and more agitated as time went on so I called the salesman (who I have to say had been brilliant) he called his office and they called me straight back. It seems that someone had wrote it in on the wrong date. They were very apologetic and said that they would come on Sunday to install the boiler unit and that calmed me and put me at ease. I was also promised at this point that it would be finished that day as well.

Well the installation engineers turned up on the Sunday morning. Walked in and after looking around said they could not finish the work that day and we would be without hot water and heating for a day and night. Now it is pretty cold this time of year so I was not happy but since I wanted it fitted and they said it would be finished Monday I let them proceed. Well the installers got to work and fitted everything apart from a part they did not have and left. Leave they did, with a great big mess behind them. They had damaged our new bath, which was put in 3 weeks earlier. They tore up the lino ripping it and then not replacing it properly. They ruined a cd of mine by knocking it on the floor and treading on it. And they left a big mess with lots of unnecessary holes.


Now we had to travel 30 miles, to my fiancés parents house to have a shower that night and got back to a freezing house with no hot water. So we went to work I called them voicing my distress and they promised to call at 4.30 to finish it. They did not turn up. They left us without hot water and heating for another night. Finally on the Tuesday they came to finish the work. After 5 days of being messed around we had our heating, hot water and a nice warm house. That morning we called the installation department and the lady on the phone was very helpful. She apologized for all the hassle they had caused and would offer us a service agreement for all the utilities for free (about £100 worth) no this is very nice but we are still waiting for it to arrive.
In the end we did get our heating sorted but after a lot of wasted time, effort and money when you pay £2000 for a boiler and its installation you expect a good job.
Unfortunately I did not experience this with this company.

My advice would be if you want to risk it go for it if not get a local corgi registered plumber to do it for you. I would not recommend this company to anyone and they will be receiving a long letter of complaint from me. As stated this is only my experience with this company, they may have had very many happy customers, sadly I am not one of them.

It's funny isnt it these days when it comes to "SALES" everyone is friendly, helpful, punctual, efficient -even but when after contracts have been signed and customers have agreed to pay £x amount -what follows is total incompetence -like putting the wrong date for your re-fitting! They should have checked all the parts were there to start with -but thats another story! I would definitely put this in writing to Head of Customer Services, or the Manager there as I'm sure many other consumers who may not even need a boiler may get approached by friendly sales people -who are good -but its the job that matters and the how efficiently it was done!
