Central Saint Martins is known to be a good and thorough art school. The building was in a nice location, the workshops satisfactory consisting of :
Wood, Metal, Ceramics, Stitch and Print. Within Foundation the classes split into - Fine Art: Painting, sculpture, contextual studies, video & photography - 3DD: Architecture, product design, jewellery, spatial design - Design: Textiles, Fashion, Fashion Communication, Graphics, Illustration, Visual Communication.
My first opinion is that it was enjoyable and you get to experience most of every pathway. What was disappointing is that generally, everything seems rushed and you get a month to experience ALL of these pathways. Be warned that most of the course is rushed. When placed into your pathway (Which is a stressful process much like entering for your BA)
Firstly, the classrooms are just that, classrooms tables and chairs only. Lecture rooms involves an underground basement downstairs. Firstly I find the teaching in CSM completely disappointing, they give little advice and most of the time only the best students have attention to them pushing them further. Other students are pushed aside, which seems ridiculous. CSM only nurtures the top 10 in the class, other students are pushed aside by tutors and are generally left to fend for themselves. Be warned, most students are ridiculously stressed throughout the whole year. You have to fight to get into the pathway you want, then into your degree.
What is thoroughly disappointing of a course of 600 students I am sure, about 500 of them are international. Its unbelievably disappointing that as a university that gains its reputation for 'British Designers' the ratio for international to UK is much lower then 50%. As well as this the university itself is unbelievably disorganised, expect to get your lectures AFTER the project, information that would have been useful 2 weeks before.

Review of Central Saint Martins
Advantages: Very hip, excellent facilities for each subject area, people on the whole very sociable and friendly Disadvantages: It's in Elephant & Castle!! Not much of a 'community' feel due to it being in London, terrible Freshers arrangements
