Miscellaneous
Compliant Standards: Plug and Play
Software / system requirements
OS Required: Microsoft DOS, Apple MacOS, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition / Windows ME, Microsoft Windows 2000 / XP
Advantages: Small, Light, No external power required Disadvantages: None I can think of!
...Very slim device, with sleek black plastic case and rounded edges. Has rubber feet to prevent slipping when placed on desk.
Compatible with all Operating Systems (including Linux) due to FAT formatting. As with all drives, can be repartitioned or reformatted as preferred.
Has Windows XP software on board to simplify backups.
Very short USB cable (about 10cm), so an extension may be necessary. No power supply (gets power from USB port), so truly portable.
Fast USB2 connection.
Reliable WD Hard Drive - I've had it for over a year with no problems.
This is now a low storage capacity Hard Drive at 60GB, but I would thoroughly recommend it (or a larger capacity Passport) for anyone who needs genuine portability with their hard drive....

HDD 300 gb Review ofMaxtor OneTouch III FireWire 400 and USB2.0 300 GBby
Aka2097
Advantages: USB 2.0 and Firewire Disadvantages: Not the lightest thing around 1.5kg
...First of all this HDD id like to say this is a very good HDD but it not to good if your planning to carry it around it ways around 1.5kg and then there's the power cable, the drive is big too 13.6 cm x 6.5 cm x 21.7 cm, so not very portable.
The HDD capacity is 300GB but actually is slightly less around 285GB.
The HDD use USB2 and Firewire (6 pin) using the USB cable data transfer is very fast about 450mbs with a good USB card and the same goes for the Firewire with speeds ranging from 390 to 400mb. The average seek time is around 9ms. The internal buffer size is 16mb with really makes this HDD very fast at reading and writhing. It has a standard spindle speed of 7200rpm.
The installation is extremely simple just plug and play and it does jut that well with XP it does. This is great value for money as long as you intend to leave...

Advantages: reliable, quick to use Disadvantages: A bit large for day to day use
...I have had this hard-drive for a far while now and i must say that i have been very happy with it. It isn't anything special and there aren't really any advantages over other portable hard-drives. However it's main asset is it's reliabilty.
This relaiblity is what makes me reccommend this hard-drive to potential buyers. For me it is better to have a storage device that will work everytime you connect it to the computer rather than something flashy which looks stylish - not to say that the lacie is hideous.
In terms of performance the lacie ticks all the boxes again. It is quickly found by the computer as soo as its connected and then its very easy to find in the 'My Computer' folder. Conncetion is done by either/both wires which are both USB compatible, on older computers i found i had to connect both wires but on my relatively new...
