Gosh, where to start! I think it's clear from reading the reviews on this pill that it effects people in different ways. I was put onto cerazette 9 months ago after getting high blood pressure when I went onto a combined pill (marvelon), which is a common reason for women to be put onto progesterone-only pills. When I was told I was over the moon, my close friend has been on the pill for a number of years and has never had a period!
Unfortunately this hasn't been the case for me. My periods have been irregular and I have often had 2 in a month. I have been known to have periods that have lasted for a week and a half, though this has only happened a couple of times. I was originally told this would settle down after I had been on the pill for a while, but 9 months on and they are still not regular. The only benefit with regards to periods seems to be a reduction in period pains, though this is something I rarely have troubles with anyway.
I have also experienced a change in my skins condition. I suffer from dry skin and always have done, however, after being on cerazette for a few months my skin become very oily and I was suffering from bad spots. I asked my doctor if this was a side-effect of the pill, which she was certain it was, but would not allow me to change to a combined pill again due to the health risks of high blood pressure. She mentioned that there was another progesterone-only pill (POP) that would be suitable but that it only had a 4 hour window. Of course, this is the great advantage of cerazette, unlike other POPs it has a 12 hour window, meaning you have 12 hours within which to remember to take it before needing to use other forms of contraception for the following 7 days. Since then, my skin has gone in the complete opposite direction and has become very dry! However, this can be easily solved with a bit of moisturiser!
I haven't noticed any mental or psychological effects of being on cerazette - as it only contains the one hormone it should have less of an impact in this sense. This is a great advantage, being on microgynon made me irritable and emotional.
I am happy to remain on cerazette, but mainly because I have little alternatives! I still hope that my periods will settle down and become regular again - this is definitely the most annoying side-effect I have experienced. Personally, I think each individual needs to try cerazette in order to know how it will effect them because whilst some love it others have a completely different experience.
