I suffered badly with combined pills Cilleste and Yasmin, Yasmin being the worst. I suffer from a thyroid disorder and this causes my cycles to be terribly irregular anywhere from 25 - 37 days apart. Also I will add that I do not suffer badly from PMS/PMT, generally only a few pimples and some tummy bloating and cramping. Yasmin caused me to have periods every 2 weeks, awful acne which spread to my chest, swollen breasts (which I had been lucky enough to have never suffered), weight gain (3 or 4 pounds that were impossible to shift) and I turned into Genghis Khan. I came of them and it took a year for my body to return to normal.
TAKING CERAZETTE
After a year of giving up on oral contraception I read about Cerazette and went straight to my doctor to request it. The doctor agreed that it was likely that I am sensitive to high levels of estrogen and that Cerazette, a progestogen only pill (POP) may be very effective and more successful than my experiences of combined pills. Another benefit is that famous 12 hour missed pill window. Unlike combinds which have only 4 hours before it becomes ineffective.
I have been taking it for 4 months and I am delighted and thankful that I have finally found a pill that agrees with my body. Yes, for the first month I did suffer from a brown sticky discharged on and off which was annoying (especially to my boyfriend) BUT that was the only month I suffered from this dreaded irregualrity. In fact my periods have regulated to every 37 days exactly, a first in my life. I suffer no PMT symptoms, not even pimples or cramping tummy. And no longer get annoying discharge. My boobs do not swell and I am never grouchy (not that I was ever before anyhoo). Of course I will not rule out that I won't get these synptoms in the future, but the outlook is favourable to me.
As for weight gain, I used to suffer from cravings before a period on and off other pills, generally as much chocolate as I could afford. On Cerazette I do not have cravings as bad and definately no weight gain. As a gym bunny I have noticed burning off present weight I'd like to be losing a bit tougher (I'm 5'3 and 121 pounds), this may be down to winter weather and also Cerazette may affect thyroxine medication I take for my thyroid, so it could be a metabolism thing.
Obviously a lot of other women suffer the total opposite and react terribly to it, but I think if you find you didn't get on with combined pills and you think you may be sensitive to estrogen then a POP may be beneficial.

I was moved to this about 3 months ago now and I hate it. Has had the exact opposite effect from the one you had - I have a period every week and a half, my hormones are all over the place, and I have never been so moody! Will be switching asap.
