Advantages: Long awaited Anita Blake sequel Disadvantages: A little rushed and incomplete
For those of you who are new to the series Anita Blake lives in a world where all types of supernatural creatures exist and vampires are legal people. In the human world Anita raises the dead for a living, she's the local vampire executioner and she helps out the police as a supernatural expert. In the monsters' world she's the Executioner, a necromancer, the vampire Master's girlfriend and human servant, enforcer of the local WereWolf Pack ... ...shifter).
Anita, Richard (king werewolf) and JeanClaude (master vampire) are an unhappy triad, linked together by vampire marks with either Anita or Richard fighting the link at any point in time and thus weakening their overall powerbase and threatening to get them all killed. Anita finds that due to the link she inherits part of the others' nature including JC's need to feed off of sexual emotions.

Anita finds that due to the link she inherits part of the others' nature including JC's need to feed off of sexual emotions.
In this the 11th book of the series Anita has become reconciled to the side effects of the linkage including her increased sexual appetite and more comfortable with herself becoming a more likable and well rounded character. Whilst Richard still cannot accept his furry side and remains cut off from the other two and practically suicidal until the end of the book when he decides to flex his muscles. Just at the wrong time of course. Strangely Richard is the most unsympathetic character in the entire series I find the constant angst and whining dreary.
This book has two main themes: in the first JC and Asher (his vampire ex lover) have upset the mother of their vampire line and she has sent one of her minions to harrass and test them, in the second Anita has to find and kill a werewolf killer/rapist.
Most of the action concentrates on the brutality and sadism of vampire politics and the complications Anita and JC must go through to protect their weaker people. The book is nowhere near as graphic as the previous one (Narcissus in Chains) and is I think the better for it. By the end the heroes win through but only because all three of the triad work together and JC finds that he is more powerful than he thought and now free from his maker.
The hunt for the werewolf killer is almost an afterthought and its ending is anticlimatic. This part of the books seems to be there mainly to set up the total breakdown in the working relationship between Anita and Dolph (the man in charge of the supernatural squad of the police force) due to his personal problems (his son wants to become a vampire) and increasing hatred of the supernatural.Presumably this is to set the scene for the next book in the series.
Anita has a complicated love life - she loves JC and Richard, is estranged from Richard, sleeping with Micah (head wereleopard) - and sex and power consolidation have gotten mixed up. Many people have complained about the increasing level of sexuality in the series and if you're offended by the idea of a threesome / multiple partners then this isn't the book for you. However that said I think there were really only two blatant sex scenes in the book and both were handled well - much better than Narcissus in Chains - descriptive but not graphic.
All in all this isn't one of her best books but it is well written with snappy (and at times funny) dialogue and the action carries on through the book. I feel that part of its weakness is that it's a filler for the next one as a future new vampire menace is introduced, but it also seemed rushed in parts and gave the impression that there had been some heavy editing. By the end Anita, JC and Asher are a threesome and Richard is finally ready to lead his pack properly but overall the relationship issues still remain unresolved and are getting tedious - it's hard to see that the series can go much farther.
Advantages: sex and death and did i mention sex? Disadvantages: if easily offended etc
...violence. The plot for Cerulean Sins has two strands, a police investigation into a series of were-wolf killings, and the arrival of a party of vampires who represent Jean Claude's mistress Belle. The police investigation is fairly run-of-the-mill, and not well inter-faced with the main plot of Jean Claude's unwelcome guests.
The unwelcome guests however are v. unwelcome. Laurell Hamilton hasn't, it must be admitted, done anythign very original, ... ...find out what happens. Cerulean Sins resolves some of the bugging character conflicts, and opens others. It also sets the stage for what happens next. It's an enjoyable read, but not high literature, read it because you enjoyed the others, or because you want something mindless and fun. As horror goes its well written fast-paced and sexy. So have fun with it. ...

Advantages: It's the next one in the series Disadvantages: a little to much sex
...done so far, however for Cerulean Sins I was not as sure.
Any way for those that do not know the books, Anita Blake is the legal vampire executer for the St Luis area but she is also dating and having sex with the head vampire a sexy sounding vampire by the name of Jean Claude he is the Master of the city and keeps the other vampires in check. There is also Richard who is the head Werewolf (Alpha), and a few other little supernatural that are about. ... ...living.
Okay now on to Cerulean Sins, in this book there is a lot of goings on and a few new people or should that be creatures, we get to know more about Micah and his prad he arrived in book 10 and seems to be sticking around, we also get to know more about Asher Jean Claude’s old lover from a few hundred years ago.
The main themes for this book are Anita investigating killing that are going on that are werewolf related and the arrival of one ...

Advantages: Fun fluff to read Disadvantages: Imagination has been Lost
I have read all the books in the Anita Blake Series. I loved these books!!! All the time she kept coming up with new, fun and imaginative stuff to read.. When the new books were due to come out, I'd be the first to pre-order the books. But, these last two or three books have severely disapointed me. It seems like Mrs. Hamilton has proceeded to make these books, much along the same lines as soft porn -- you know, use a story as a pretext for the sex. ... ...used before, were fun to read, imaginative and added to the stories. But now, it just seems pointless. I do however still recommend the first 6 or 7 books. If you are a new reader, I would suggest reading from the beginning as there are a lot of references made that would be missed otherwise. ...
