...a 500g pump dispenser of Cetraben Emollient Cream for daily use all over my body to stop me shrivelling up into a raisin - believe me, I had begun to think that there was no hope! I have had a lot of trouble with dry skin, mostly eczema and rashes but also the odd outburst of spots or dryness. I went to my doctor and requested a solution. To start with I got Aqueous Cream which worked for a relatively long time. Then, when my skin gained immunity of that, I tried a stronger alternative which was meant to be a short-term solution which would clear up any problem skin within two weeks maximum. I don't have a note of the name but I was told if I used it on the same bit of skin for more than 14 days, that bit of skin would start to go yellow because of the steroids in it. The patch of skin on my arm where I had had a rash for around 6 months on and off started to discolour so I went straight back to my doctors.
As you can imagine, my doctor was starting to feel slightly at a loss. She reassessed my situation and after some thought gave me a tube of Fucidin - a steroidal cream for use only on particularly bad areas - and a 500g pump dispenser of Cetraben Emollient Cream for daily use all over my body to stop me shrivelling up into a raisin - believe me, I had begun to think that there was no hope! All throughout summer that year I had to choose carefully what to wear so that my arms were not open to view - hard when the temperature's bordering on 30 degrees celcius! I tan well, but the areas where I had the rash never tanned so when they cleared up I had white patches on my lovely brown skin!
Anyway, back to the Cetraben... I immediately began to notice a change in my arms, and around my nose where I also used to get rashes. I was instructed by my doctor to use the cream three times daily until the rash cleared and then twice daily from then on in. Since the cream is non-steroidal, I could apply as much as I needed without risking discolouring my skin. Now I use it once in the morning and once at night and hardly even have to use the steroid cream which is an added bonus.
Now for a bit of the more technical details about Cetraben:
---Active Ingredients--- White Soft Paraffin BP 13.2% w/w Light Liquid Paraffin Ph Eur 10.5% w/w
---Also Contains--- Emulsifying wax BP Cetyl Stearyl Alcohol BP Glycerin BP Butylparaben Methylparaben (E218) Ethylparaben (E214) Propylparaben (E216) Phenoxyethanol BP Citric Acid Purified Water
---Uses--- This product is recommended to people who have red, inflamed, damaged, dry or chapped skin, especially when associated with eczema, which is probably why it worked so well for me as I had most of those symptoms. It works by moisturising and protecting the skin to relieve the problems mentioned above.
Watch out for.......
Allergies to the ingredients since there are quite a few of the, Skin reactions to the product - if you have any, stop using the product and go see your doctor or pharmacist.
There are no warnings about using this while pregnant or if you have a heart condition or cancer so it is generally useful to everyone. There is also no age restriction for this product - in fact my little brother, age 3, has had this used on him while bathing to moisturise his skin.
I recieved this product on prescription which is why I got such as large amount of it. I think if you want it without prescription it comes in smaller tubes and costs quite a lot. These tubes hold about 100g as opposed to the 500g in the large dispenser I have. If your skin is constantly dry then I would suggest going to a doctor as the large dispenser lasts for around a year depending on how much you use it and is a lot easier to access through the dispenser pump. If you go online then I have just this minute discovered that you can buy it for a net price of about £5.00 so it may be something to look into.
This cream can be used on dry skin but it can also be used with water in the shower so it is certainly very convenient.
I think that this product is one of the best moisturisers I have tried and I would definitely recommend it to anyone with dry skin as it worked on me a year and a half ago and still works now. It can be used alongside other products or on its own so ask your chemist today to try it.

...tube you have the words CETRABEN EMOLLIENT CREAM written in blue capitals and in lower case also sporting the blue theme is the selling point - "Relieves dry skin and eczema" My attention was grabbed immediately.
Being someone who suffers from seriously dry skin and eczema too I am always interested in products that relive the symptoms of red, sore and itchy skin.

I have only used this on my hands but reckon my elbows will be next for some creaming!

Advantages: Comes in several sizes Disadvantages: Have only found it Asda up to now.
My son has been using this cream for about 8mths. He first started with dry skin problems after being face-painted when about 7yrs old and we'd successfully treated it with steriod creams. At that point the eye area was affected and it didn't flare up again till he was in his teens, this time mainly on his hands, elbows and behind the knees. At this point I think it was perhaps stress-related as it was worse around exam time. Being male, he wasn't ... ...in August last year he was referred to a dermatologist at Guy's Hospital, London as he'd applied for a commission in the Army and they sent for his medical records as part of the paperwork. At this time he was in a bad way after being at camp for several weeks, not using any cream regularly. The Army failed him medically and that was the kick he needed. I bought this product at Asda pharmacy and he uses it every day, several times. His hands are ...

...face as i favour the cetraben for other parts of the body eg arms and legs.
My son had severe eczema behind his knees, creases in his arms, wrists, face and feet, and would wake him up at night and he actually scratched until he was bleeding so I was quite desperate to get something effective.
After trying different steroid based creams and after requests from myself to prescribe something that actually works, my doctor eventually prescribed this ... ...but i continued using the cetraben every day and within a few weeks it had completely cleared up.
This was great as my son had suffered for about 2-3 yrs with the same symptoms and now he has not had another outbreak for about 18mths. If i begin to see symptoms starting to resurface which normally happens around march time for some reason, i just apply the cream for a few days and the eczema doesn't flare up.
I thought this was a really good cream ...

Quick review of Cetraben Emollient Cream
Varicose Eczema. I have suffered all the discomfort of varicose eczema for at least 10 years.I played golf daily but eventually had to stop playing as the complaint actually worsened asthe body temperature increased. My rest at night was destroyed due to the constant itching.
I attended the doctor for the complaint and was prescribed an emollient cream and a cortisone cream . This gave me some relief but I still dare not exercise too much or the itch would re occur...
In January of this year I visited Cyprus for a 3 week holiday and within days I was completely covered in an allergic reaction and was hospitalised and treated for 24 hours on a cortisone drip.I wasadvised by the dermatologist in Cyprus to return to England and have a full alergy check up,which I did.Result switch to cetraben ,immediate positive reaction, and no eczemafor past 3 months, resumed my golf and no longer need cortisone cream ...
