~ * CETRABEN CREAM * ~ * I recently suffered from a bad case of eczema on my legs and when the doctor finally diagnosed it was eczema, I was prescribed some steroid cream along with a big pump bottle of Cetraben cream which I was to apply four times a day. I was shocked at the size of the cream, but after reading the information on the back I thought this must be a very good cream as it's specifically for dry skin such as eczema. The Emollient cream is moisturising and it protects the skin and relieves symptoms such as red, inflamed, damaged, dry and chapped skin, when associated with eczema. It states on the front of the pump bottle that the cream contains White soft paraffin and Light Liquid Paraffin, this gives the cream a slight odour of paraffin oil, how-ever I've not really noticed much of a small to this when using it. I was told to use the cream four times a day, how-ever it states on the back of the pump bottle to apply to dry skin areas as often as required. White Soft Paraffin works as a moisturiser but putting a layer of oil over the skin surface to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface which can cause dry skin conditions, which leads to itching and scratching, which can make the skin condition feel and look worse.
At first I wasn't sure of you could purchase this cream without a prescription, how-ever when asking at my local Boots store you can buy it in 3 different sizes. The large pump bottle which I got prescribed holds 500g of cream and will cost you approximately £10 without prescription. The pump bottle is an ideal size for me due to the amount of times I had to apply the cream all over my legs. I have how-ever found this cream in my local Direct Pharmacy for about £8.00 so I was really pleased I could get this somewhere else slightly cheaper than boots.
* ~ * USING THE CREAM * ~ * I took the seal off of the pump bottle and turned the lid to the right, which is when the dispenser is open. I pressed on the pump and a little bit of white cream dispensed into my hand. The cream didn't look too thick, and I couldn't really smell anything from it. I rubbed the cream into my leg where I was experiencing dry skin. I didn't need to use too much of the cream, other-wise I would have been left with really white legs. The cream rubbed in easily and felt soft against my skin. Again I still couldn't really smell any kind of scent from the cream. The cream itself, did feel a little oily at first how-ever this soaked in and made my legs feel really soft and smooth. The itching I was experiencing had also been reduced as well which was a huge bonus. I was using this cream in between using the steroid cream the doctor prescribed me. After finishing the course of steroid cream, I have continued to sue the cream on my legs and other dry area's which have appeared. I always feel relief when I apply the cream as the itching soon goes away and my skin feels moisturised. Quite often I will apply the cream and wait a few minutes before putting on a pair of tracky bottoms whilst the cream soaks in some more. I often ask my boyfriend to apply to my back; how-ever he finds the cream quite oily so always washes his hands after. I used the cream all over my body as a moisturiser instead of my normal Nivea brand. I'm worried that my dry skin will come back which is why I have continued to use the cream, not only this but the cream is a fantastic moisturiser which is another reason why I've kept on using it. The cream does go down fairly quick, especially as I apply it about 3-4 times a day, how-ever I'm not bothered about the price of the product as I think it's worth it.
* ~ * OVERALL OPINION * ~ * When I was suffering from dry skin I tried lots of different lotions and cream's and none of them seemed to relieve the itching or the dry skin I had. When I first started using the cream I was a bit optimistic and didn't think this would work very well, especially after trying so many different creams especially for eczema, I was how-ever surprised with the results. The cream makes my skin feel moisturised and smooth. It's s a sigh of relief to know, there is a product I can buy without prescription to treat my dry skin, especially if it happens to flair up again, fingers crossed it won't. If anyone is or suffers from eczema regularly I would highly recommend this cream. I found it really good and it's also very kind to my skin and doesn't leave it feeling tight and sore. I have to give this product 5 stars and it's just fantastic and helped soothed my skin.(
