Advantages Advantages Quick heat for instant effects, thermostat control, frost protection

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not suitable for large rooms, expensive with prolonged use, cool setting ineffective

My house uses a conventional open vented system to provide the necessary heat to survive the arctic winters so often seen in the UK. Well, it gets a bit chilly now and again. Unfortunately I have no vent in my bedroom to filter in this welcome heat and my window frames are slowly but surely coming away from the wall so when it gets cold outside it gets really cold inside my room. So rather than giving into hypothermia I elect to use fan heaters to make my living conditions bearable. When my last (admittedly cheap) heater made an unexpectedly loud whirring/grating noise before shooting out ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, basic and with a high efficient heat output.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fan noise may be distracting for some.

We have a conservatory at the back of the house, and whilst we use the room extensively during the summer months because it warms up nicely with the weather, during the winter months it often gets too cold, and hence becomes a redundant room on the house. We didn’t want to go through the hassle and expense of trying to plumb another radiator in, so we decided to invest in a simple fan heater, something small and unobtrusive, which we could use to heat the room during the winter months as and when required. Looking in Argos (because we had loads of Nectar points to use) we came across this ... more

Advantages Advantages Heats well, convenient, well priced

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The noise

As our house is an older style house, it doesn’t have much insulation. We do have a vast quantity of radiators in the house, but in the rooms where we don’t have radiators, the air can be bitter at times during the winter months so I purchased a fan heater from Argos to try and take the bite out of the air. I purchased the Challenge 3KW Flat Fan Heater from Argos. I went for this one purely because price wise, it was ‘middle of the range’ and I didn’t want a really cheap one as I wanted one that would do the job well, but I didn’t want to pay a fortune for one either. This one cost £19.99 ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, safe, efficient and provides and great deal of heat

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly noisy and expensive if kept on for long periods

I am a university student living in a rented house which can get very, very cold during the winter. We can't keep the heating on for long periods due to cost and so I decided it would be a good idea to invest in a fan heater. I found this one which costs £19.99 in Argos. It's not the cheapest heater but then it's also not as expensive as some of the top models. Appearance The heater has a unique flattened shape allowing easy storage compared to most models which are usually a square or round shape. Its size measures H14xW32x D24cm. The look is quite basic with a white shiny plastic covering ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages 3kw quite high/expensive dehydrate skin,

We had bought this Challenge fan heater beacause our bedroom was so cold in the wintery months. We wanted something that would provide quick heat and had read the reviews on argos which helped us select this heater. The heater itself isnt all that exciting just a creamish coloured box with a black grill, it has a flap on the top which has the two heat settings and the temperature dial with numbers on them. The front of the box also has a warning sign do not cover, for obvious reasons and it has a orange light which comes on when you turns on the power. We purchased it for £19.99 and had ... more
