Will there ever be an end to the Championship Manager series? Somehow I dont think so ~ football games are a profitable business & so long as that continues makers will keep releasing sequels ~ The makers Eidos lead the way in this superb football simulation game ~ they are the cream of the crop in their field, the worlds most successful football management game. Since the launch of the very first Championship Manager, Eidos have made another 5 sequels ~ one success after another. They are the following and in chronological order:
So what makes Championship Manager the cream of the crop in their field?
~ Firstly ~ Eidos worldwide network of soccer experts monitor all the dealings & wheelings in the world football all of which are incorporated into the game. More than 35,000 profiles of players, managers & coaches are collected from every corner of the globe. We the gamers can experience a more realistic feeling when playing the game as Eidos bring us the latest & greatest version of the world of football.
~ Secondly ~ For every Championship
Manager game released Eidos have introduced a feast of new & improved features Each time enhancing the game to a different level, becoming more complex & demanding yet at the same time not moving away from its original version keeping the games original & traditional roots, one of the main reasons why Championship Manager has been so successful & continues to do so Why change a winning & selling formulae.
&
~ Thirdly ~ Championship Manager is the most complete football simulation game out there ~ No other football managerial game has been able to produce one success after another ~ Championship Manager still remains the top selling PC game in managerial football.
Apart from the latest edition of Championship Manager 01/02(will be buying it soon) I own all the others & so I have decided to write about Championship Manager 3, seeing that is the latest version that I have played. The objective of the game is to take control of any club from one of the 26 major leagues and attempt to guide your team to success by winning trophies. Once you embark upon your managerial career you control all aspects of the football club, such as;
Basically, you fill the boots of an Alex Ferguson or a Gerrard Houllier & get a taste of what it feels like to be a manager. No matter which team you decide to control, whether it be a top flight premiership club or a lower league side you will be set expectations & objectives by the board objectives that need to be addressed if you want to stay in a job. If the board requires a European spot and you are struggling in mid-table then its more likely you will get the sack.
Whichever team you pick Championship Manager will not be easy ~ Working your way to the top & staying there is a challenge, this in-depth and absorbing realistic managerial game is complex, demanding & very difficult. This game requires a lot of skill, patience and strategically knowing when to buy/sell players & which tactics to use.
Manager points
If you want to know how good of a manager you really are then the Hall Of Fame is where you want to be, here you can find out what your current manager rating is. When you first start the game your reputation is unproven but in order to climb up the ladder of the Hall of Fame you need to accumulate manager points. Manager points are awarded for winning matches, final league position & how well you do in cup competitions. The more points you accumulate the better your reputation is as a manager. The categories into which you will be eventually judged as a manager are as follows;
~ Superb ~ Very Good ~ Good ~ Ok ~ Poor ~ Very Poor
Statistics
All the Championship Manager series are full of statistical information Championship Manager 3 has more than 35,000 profiles of players all of which show statistical information about the players football attributes, all the players weak & strong points can be found here ~ attributes that you as a manager need to look into when buying a player. Apart from player profiles, you also have scout, coaches, physios, & manager profiles Basically a huge database containing a lot of statistical information on anything or anyone connected to the world of football.
Interface
Whilst Championship Manager 3 is a game of unlimited complexity, the interface & game design is a very simple to use a game that is mouse orientated, easy & quick to navigate which makes it more enjoyable when playing You can easily view or manipulate various aspects of the game by simply clicking on the item, Championship Manager 3 allows you to click on literally thousands of on-screen items that can be clicked again to reveal more details and information. The graphics are good even though it is all mainly tables & statistical information ~ nonetheless it is smooth & all database information is readable & well presented.
What the CRITICS have to say
~ PC Gamer ~ 97% ~ In years to come, Championship Manager will remain a benchmark for aspiring developers to match.
~ PC Review ~ 98% ~ The most successful football management game ever
~ PC Format ~ 95% ~ We doubt anything will come along to match Championship Manager in the foreseeable future
~ PC Zone ~ 95% ~ Recommended, the best football managerial game of the millennium
Bottom Line
The critics don`t lie & I for one can assure you that they are not far of the mark , thats how good this football simulation game is. For starters any game that is awarded more than 90% is worth buying or at least worth looking into ~ The Championship Manager series really is something special ~ an addictive game that immerses you into the world of football as you strive to take your team to success ~ a game that has taken all football & strategy gamers by storm. A big thumbs up to Eidos for developing such an excellent football strategy game.
Hi there. Great review. Can you have a look on the non-league teams to see if a Craig Newman is on there. I was on there last year and it's my small claim to fame. I would be very grateful if you could get back to me. Thanks....
