The UK’s most successful football management game ever returns and it’s better than ever before. I have read many games reviews on Championship Manager and all have rated the game highly. It deserves all the praise it has received.
~THE GAME~ Eidos describes the game as ‘The Most Important Game Of Your Life’. Well, yes that’s true but I believe the phrase ‘The most addictive game of your life’ would be a more accurate connection to the game.
Do I really need to describe the objectives of the game? Every football fan knows what the game is all about, but for those who don’t… (Those who are familiar with the game play might want to skip to the next section).
Championship Manager 4 is a very realistic football management game. You manage a team of your choice, for many that will be the team you support (That’s Chelsea for me). You have a choice of teams from 39 national leagues. Once you’ve chosen your team you are presented with your squad at which point you should examine thoroughly and decide
if you need to make any transfers. Available transfer funds can be limited for some clubs as this is closely related to the real world. You are then faced with a number of fixtures, from friendlies to the all important league matches. You also participate in the famous cup matches, such as The FA cup (England), League Cup and, depending on your clubs status, European/UEFA cup. To be successful and win it all you need to get your squad right, your tactics spot on and keep all your players, fans and The Board of Directors happy. Not too hard eh? (Yeah, Right!)
~NEW FEATURES~ There are many new features to the game since the previous version. As outlined in the very useful manual, the following are the main, most obvious inclusions: - 2D Match engine complete with match-day highlights package. So, you can watch the main action of your fixture, not just read the commentary. - A larger, more improved database with over 200,000 players and staff. - Right mouse clicking and keyboard shortcuts-making game play so much easier. - The allowance to choose your own user-interface from a selection of skins. - More realistic wage and transfer budgets to mirror the financial constraints in the modern football world. One annoying thing though with this is, why couldn’t they have waited just that little longer to release this game? Then Chelsea would have endless money to spend with the Ambramovic revolution. Instead they have a transfer budget of £1.5 million! - A news ticker is now displayed at the bottom of the interface, informing you of the latest news messages from the world of football. - You have the ability now to take full control of not only your first team but also your reserves AND under 19’s.
Eidos have worked hard in improving the game.
~DISADVANTAGES? ~ Although I shouldn’t moan about this, the only disadvantage to the game, are the system requirements for installation and game play. The game has a very large database of teams and players, all add to making the game more realistic, but do take up a lot of disk space and does seem to be a cause for the slowness, compared to the previous title. The end of this op has the minimum and recommended system requirements, as given by Eidos. My computer has AMD 1000MHZ, Windows XP, 256MB and I am able to run a total of 10 leagues, from the available 39. Championship Manger is rather intelligent in the way in which it informs you on how many leagues your system can run comfortably.
~CHEATS ANYONE? ~ Cheats are for, well cheaters I suppose, but with a transfer budget installed on Championship Manager you may be just a little tempted to use some cheats. There are loads available on the Internet. Some are genuine, some are not. It’s just a case of trying them all. I’m really tempted to give you some right now but I won’t because it will make really boring reading for non-fans of the game and those who have not purchased the game. However if you do want any cheats I have some real useful ones. Just leave a message in my guest book and I’ll send you some.
Overall Championship Manger is a cracker of a game. It’s addictive, emotionally involving, time-consuming, compelling… You really do have to play the game to experience the reality.
I was going to get this for my other half but wasnt sure, but now your review has made up my mind lol. Thanks, Angie. x x

Nice review. I am heavily addicted to this game and have been for years. Have you tried loading the player update patches to your game - I have and it's great. If you are a Chelsea fan - even better - your team starts off with all the new players.
