Reading the reviews, i wasn't a bit put off, everyone was raving about champix, said that it worked great, these people didn't even want a cigarette anymore i thought fantastic. Of course i also read about the side effects, depression, nausea, suicidal thoughta. I figured giving ups going to be rough these people would probably be a bit depressed even without champix, and suicidal thoughts, bah thats only a tiny minority, it wont happen to me, well it did.

Anyway giving up was a doddle, on the day before my planned give up date i double dosed, not a great idea i felt seriously rough, vomiting and serious stomach cramps, but on the bright side the thought of a ciggy was enough to turn my tum, so what ddo you know, i gave up a day early. A few times after i gave up i tried a bit of a cig (what with giving up a day early i felt like i had cheated myself out of my last enjoyable cig so i tried a few times to have one, but due to the champix there was no more enjoyment in it so i never had more than a few drags). So in short giving up was easy, im nearly 3 months smoke free now, off the pills for about 6 weeks, coming of them (early and without weaning myself off) made the cravign a bit harder, but bearable.

Now side effects,very vivid dreams, which was great fun, as i have great dream recal. Stomach cramps after morning pill, but more than worth it to be smoke free. Oh and serious depression, i noticed i had become short tempered and snappy (well my family did) and i noticed my depression ha got a bit worse but i figured it was all worthwhile.

Thing got progressively worse, so i never noticed it happening but by the end i had alientated every one i knew, my family home had become a warzone, talk of me having to move out. I had completely alientated all my friends, nobody would so much as look at me at work. I didnt notice any of this until my boss told me something had to give, she asked me about how things were at home, i started telling her about how depressed i was ( still didn't realise it was the champix at fault) and she was very concerned (scarily so) she told me to go home for a month (my home town this is, going a bit off topic but i guess it's relevant , i had to leave my home town and move 250 miles up country and that was why i became depressed originally , it was only ever supposed to be tempory, i regulary went home for weekends etc and my depression always went away when i was at home)

Any way i went home by this point i had been smoke free for about a month, and i was still on champix, for the first time my depression didnt get better, and it was terrifying, i started thinking seriously about how i was feeling, i realised i was dangerously depressed. I had started thinking about suicide several times a day, It was never far from my mind, if i were a weaker person, i don't doubt i would have killed myself. But i am not weak, i knew my family needed me so i decided to go to the doctors and get help, something i had always been very reluctant to do, as i know having depression on my medical record could prevent me from adopting children.

On an unrelated note i stopped taking champix, i just kept forgetting to take them, had rather a lot on my mind trying not to kill myself.

The first night i returned up country (my month off had ended) i lay in bed crying all night, decided i would ring the doctors the next day, i had been off the champix for about 5 days. The next day i felt better, so i put off making the call, and the day after i felt better still. etc , that was a month ago. I am still depressed but the idea of killing myself seems ridiculous now, all the argument i had while i was on champix also seem ridiculous, i was completely irrational, looking back on it i can't believe it didn't notice at the time, i was full blown off my rocker.

I thank God i stopped taking those tablets when i did, because i was at rock bottom, things couldnt get worse. There is no doubt in my mind those tablets were to fault, i strongly urge anyone to think carefully before taking champix.

They worked beautifuly , i never thought giving up could be so easy, so i don't think people should avoid taking them, just explain the risks to someone your close too, that way if you start behaving oddly, they can be rational where you might not be, and make you stop taking them. If my family knew the risks of those tablet they would of made me stop taking them before i got so low. If i could go back in time i wouldn't do it again, because i know how i react to them. So just make sure, please, that you are prepared for the worst.
