I always thought Drop The Dead Donkey was a very funny sitcom. It was set in the offices of Globelink News and this setting gave the opportunity for some good topical news related jokes about people or items in the news. The programme was first shown in 1990 and was the creation of Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin. At this time the Thatcher era in politics was just ending and the Major years as PM followed. This gave a rich vein of comic possibilities ... ...The characters themselves though added great depth to the programme including Gus who was the boss but who sucked up to the proprietor, Sir Roysten. The news editor was George who was insecure and had an unruly daughter. The floor manager was Helen who controlled the newsreaders who were the old experienced Henry and vacuum headed Sally. Finally there was Dave who was always gambling and Damien who was a reporter with no principles.
