The brainchild of Seth Mcfarlane, also behind American Dad, Family Guy bears similarities to the Simpsons, centering around a cartoon American family with a dimwitted and impulsive father (Peter... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to follow plots, hilariously funny sitcom!

Disadvantages Disadvantages none - there aren't enough episodes!

On a bit of a cartoon whirlwind at the moment! This is my all time favourite TV show, although I have never watched it on the TV before, I basically started watching Family Guy because I was bored of the Simpson's it was Christmas and my Momma was getting me a Futurama Box Set, and I thought, instead of having two Futurama Box sets, why not get something different, so I asked for a Family Guy Box Set as well. At the time, only Season 3 was available on DVD in my local HMV, I had never seen any Family Guy before, but had heard certain Stewie quotes such as "testicular boot-camp" or "Splendid ... more

Advantages Advantages Very funny, witty, original and intelligent

Disadvantages Disadvantages Won't appeal to everyone

...but in a good way. I don't mean it's a pathetic South Park style cartoon containing enough swearing and blasphemy for it to be rated 15, but enough poor and childish storylines to make it so appealing to the younger viewers. In fact at first I'd say that Family Guy is not as offensive as a programme, but the DVDs still have a 15 certificate and there is the occasional "bas****." PREMISE: The reason I like Family Guy so much is that it features the enjoyable cartoon family and character-driven plots of the Simpsons, a great and often subtle intelligence that is usually lacking in American ... more

Advantages Advantages Funny, original in some ways, great characters

Disadvantages Disadvantages A tad like the simpsons

Hi again, Thanks in advance for reading this-hope you like it. Well here is another great cartoon showing on Channel 4 and Sky One(well there's a surprise). It is much like the Simpsons in the way that it has the same family members and a dog but no cat. I guess the real reason for the title is (I am afraid to say this) The Simpsons is getting boring (Oh god I said it, it feels good). I am sorry but I really think it is, especially if you have Sky. I used to watch The Simpsons every single night without fail but now when it has such high competition and the stories are getting weak as they are ... more

Advantages Advantages the baby's plans and the dogs advice

Disadvantages Disadvantages not enough episodes to rival the simpsons yet

Family guy is a new classic. I watched half an episode once and though I didn’t like it so didn’t watch again (I can be judgemental like that). My wife watched it a couple of times and then insisted we watch it every time. She really liked baby Stewie and the talking dog Brian. The basic premise of this series is a bit more normal than the Simpsons. The characters are a lot more realistic. The family is what seems to be the average American family (at least for TV shows and cartoons). Peter - An overweight father with a boring job. Lois - A somewhat attractive mother(as cartoons go she’s no ... more

Advantages Advantages You'll be familarised by it's structure in minutes. And it's very funny.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not hard to see where they've put this together really.

The temptation to use The Simpsons/The Flintstones/South Park/King Of The Hill as comparisons is overwhelming but true. Although this is a show that celebrates family values rather than skew them with effective satire. It's targets are indeed very funny although mostly aimed at US television and the images they present. The first victim being 'The Brady Bunch' and showing them at their worst....high morals with even higher punishments. The two most subversive charcters are Brain, the talking dog and Stewie, the manipulative baby. They are without doubt the two funniest charcters on the show ... more
