Poor Coverage of Tour De France

Advantages: Good that it is on
Disadvantages: Bad that it did not have more coverage and at better times

...been appalling.

Channel 4 have been covering it, not that you would know. Some days it is on at 5.30pm, a great time for people who work or have families and then other days it has not been on till after midnight, some days at 4.00am. I know most of us have got videos but why on earth cant we have it on at a sensible time in the evening? We have ended up with a weeks worth on video.

Why is it that TV schedules can be ...
...cycling? Arent we meant to be promoting cycling in the UK instead of cars? Surely more coverage of this would help.

I also have noticed that unless I have missed them on TV there have been hardly any reports on the days Tour goings on in the news.

One day we watched the video that we had recorded the day before, got to the end of the programme only to find that we had just missed the next days programme because they ... more

Eurosport has some good and alternative sports

Advantages: Free and varied
Disadvantages: Not often any mainstream 'big' events

Eurosport is the kind of channel that a lot of people only end up watching when they are on holiday or in a hotel somewhere where they have limited satellite coverage, and this is a great shame. There is an excellent roundup of sports on there regularly, and they cover some less mainstream sports that are interesting and not really available for viewing elsewhere. Due to the poor coverage of Channel 4 of the last Tour De France, Eurosport provided a good alternative. Also when there is a major international football tournament or the like taking place, Eurosport often televises every match live, as far as they can (obviously if 2 take place simultaneously they cannot). So if you get bored of mainstream sport or want to watch Iraq vs. the USA in the world cup, you know where to look! ...

Where is my Tour de france

Advantages: Don't normally watch it, only for CYCLING
Disadvantages: Taking my beloved programme off

I have just learnt this week from my Cycling Weekly magazine that Channel 4 is to axe the coverage of the greatest event of all time, The Tour de France, instead they are putting on more cricket. I am so angry that I had to send David Kerr (Head of C4) an email. ~The decision to drop cycling bewilders me , last year in the Tour De France , David Millar, a British rider was the winner of the first stage and wore the "Yellow Jersey" (shows who's winner by wearing this). Obviously it was great publicity for Channel 4. The stature of British Cycling has risen to an all time high, because of our riders success, at the olympics and various World Championships. Armchair fans and cyclists would have expected cycling coverage to increase not vanish! I know for a fact, that people who don't normally follow cycling , eagerly await each ...

Gave Up My Season Ticket Years Ago

Advantages: OK if you like Football and Rugby
Disadvantages: If you like any other sports, forget it basically!

. Ascot, Newbury, Lingfield tended to feature most, and of course each April (and November when it was introduced) Aintree. A 'filler' would follow the racing such as golf or swimming, or early 80's before Channel 4, Tour de France cycling! If in season, rugby, cricket or tennis would take us, if needed to, to half time where a brief report on the state of the matches was given. Back to the second half of rugby or next session of cricket, or another filler such as gymnastics. The BBC left 'quircky' sports to ITV and Dickie Davis so no mickey mouse stuff here! 4.40 and the full time scores and the 'vidiprinter' then the dulcet tones of the late Leonard Martin or more recently Tim Gudgeon to reveal your team's fate. Pools News followed with the reminder of which Ceefax page to turn to as they couldn't really be bothered to tell you those ...
