    Advantages Advantages easy to understand

    Disadvantages Disadvantages on channel 5 so not everyone will be able to watch it

    Channel 5 news is probably, the next step up after you've watched newsround, but your still not ready to take on the BBC1 6oclock news. Like any other news station they give the latest news updates but in a way that is easy to understand and take in without it being patronising. For many news stories, they give you a top5 facts, which gives you a background to the subject mentioned. for example the other day I remember them doing the top 5 facts on the Real IRA. They also bring in news stories about well known celebrities as well as the political stories featured in all the other news ... more

    The Five news is on at various times. I tend to mainly watch the Lunchtime news at noon. It lasts for half an hour. However, the news bulletins are broadcast almost every hour (eg 8:55pm) which can be annoying during a film, I have to admit. They are actually called "News Updates" and the news is very brief. Perhaps 3 stories are quickly covered and they play this irritating music in the background. The evening news is on at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Kirsty Young - infamous for leaving Channel Five for ITV and then moving back again! - presents these in-depth looks at the latest stories. Charlie ... more

    Channel 5 News from the studio Mondays to Fridays at 12.00, 17.30 and 19.00 hrs. I think they present the news in a less formal way than the BBC, is this a good thing? I don’t know. The 1/2 hour sessions tend to be overlong a can sometimes degrade to the level of a chat show. They do intersperse regular broadcasts with updates. These are more concise. THE LUNCHTIME SLOT The lunch time slot runs from 12.00 - 12.30 with a weather update at the end of the show.
