The company advert: If there is one thing better than eating chocolate it's drinking it. - that is exactly what happened when I purchased a tin of drinking chocolate! The drink came in a 500 gram size cost £10 online from the company shop and £8.75 from Tesco. If everything worked well as it said on the tin- I would be having - Flakes of chocolate giving the aroma and velvet texture of a rich luxurious drink - Chocolat Charbonnel. But what actually happened was I never get to dissolve the chocolate. I tried hot water, hot milk, microwaving, boiling - but I kept on getting a suspension with the chocolate powder settling at the bottom of my cup! I wrote to the company to say that I am not able to get a cup of chocolate drink as it says on the tin and I am not happy as a customer. The company sent me a replacement and emailed me instruction how to make a perfect cup of this special chocolate. They also told me its not an instant chocolate, so I should not expect all the powder to dissolve! I am sharing the preparation technique with you just in case you buy this and struggle. Warm milk, in a cup put 2-3 spoons of chocolate powder- your desired strength, add a spoonful of sugar, mix well, add a small quantity of milk, mix vigorously to form a paste, then add rest warm milk to fill up the cup. If you do not add sugar, it does not seem to dissolve. Never add hot water! I noticed that his technique worked well with replacement package, not with the original. So what I purchased from Tesco and what the company had send me as a replacement - are not the same chocolate! Anyway, I have now been able to prepare the luxury chocolate and enjoy it, very good, quite dark, rich in flavour, but I sill prefer my Suchard! If you try let me know if you liked it!
. Wouldn?t we all), soon became popular. It was a drink for the elite only, since it was so expensive. Mixed into a sweeter drink with cane sugar and vanilla, and heated, the Spanish kept it secret for nearly a century before an Italian traveller, Antonio Carletti, discovered the chocolate treasure in1606 and took it into other parts of Europe.
The first chocolate house was reportedly opened in London in 1657 by a Frenchman. After that, many more opened and like the coffee houses before, they were the places to be seen, by gentlemen of standing.
Now whilst I am in no way a gentleman of standing, or even a bloke of sitting (or even a bloke for that matter), I do enjoy my hot chocolate. Many years ago, about nine or so to be more exact, I discovered ?Chocolat Charbonnel?. This is made by ?CharbonneletWalker?, and it is basically grated ...
