Is This Advertising Ethical
Review of Charities - NSPCC [TV Advertisement] by leahslad

Advantages: Raises money for an excellent cause
Disadvantages: Unethical? Bad timing prior to watershed

I'm a firm supporter of the NSPCC, please dont get me wrong but I have got to speak up about the recent advertising campaigns they have been putting out on our TV's, especially one I saw at prime time - with child viewers still watching! THE CHARITY: Before going into detail about the adverts, I feel it important that I first provide you with some basic information about the charity itself. The NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty ...
...who are suffering poor surrounding and/or child abuse. It has help lines and allows children to call themselves or for adults to report suspected child abuse. The money also pays for workers to go out and check the cases and find their validity, involving the social services if necessary to have the child removed and covering any legal costs in protecting the child. All in all I rate the values of this charity as one of the best around. Nobody wants ... Read review

NSPCC, Would you donate
Review of Charities - NSPCC [TV Advertisement] by robsgirl

Advantages: Suoerb charity that does some superb work for chldren
Disadvantages: Powerful adverts - but morally acceptable?

...It's one of Britains leading charities and uses the money it recieves to help something close to almost every humans heart - children. Through their work they have made a real name for themselves, and people know instantly what their abreviated symbols mean (if anyone doesnt its the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children - NSPCC). Recently they have seen a drop in takings though, mainly due to the drop in donations to charities ...
...go around. By those charities that have money spending it on large advertising campaigns to earn even more, smaller charities who can't afford the exposure will miss out. This annoys me somewhat as its a blatant abuse of power, and I also wonder if this advertising money couldn't be used elsewhere. Those £3 million spent on NSPCC advertising could have saved thousands of children. Instead some fat cat gets the cash and an ad campaign is born (however ... Read review

Christmas appeal
Review of Charities - NSPCC [TV Advertisement] by sue

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: too painfdul to watch

I find the christmas appeal that has been on in a variation for many years now very hard to watch and does not inspire me to give money to the NSPCC ever. I think that they have forgotten that there are many people out there who were in violent relationships and have got out. They are now leading a happy life with their children and want to enjoy Christmas. When I see the advert all the pain and hurt I felt at that time is brought back. Christmas ...
...the pain. I would much prefere an advert that told us what they could do with more funding, how do they help families and children that need help. The grafic way they show a child suffering at Christmas has an impact but an impact I don't want to remember. ... Read review

But for the grace of God.....
Review of Charities - NSPCC [TV Advertisement] by anguk

Advantages: makes the point, affects viewers
Disadvantages: the fact that the NSPCC exists at all

You can't fail to be affected by this hard-hitting advert from the NSPCC and hopefully it will encourage more people to dig deep into their pockets. The very first time I saw this advert I was in tears and I still now get a lump in my throat. The small child who doesn't cry because he's learnt that nobody comes anyway, the little boy who doesn't talk to his parents because his abuser has told him that he'll kill him, very blunt and to the point ...
...some people may find the advert upsetting but there is no way to get the message across without showing the facts and it's a sad fact of life that these incidents do really happen, and all too often. In an ideal world the NSPCC wouldn't exist because there would be no need for them but as there are sadly always going to be children at risk and in need of help the least we can do is respond to these adverts. ... YOU can do something
Review of Charities - NSPCC [TV Advertisement] by Lizzii

Advantages: Putting an end to child abuse
Disadvantages: None - only thinking that you can't help

What would happen if it was a child that YOU knew who had been abused? You would want to help them in anyway that you could...but what about the kids that you don't know? For anybody to watch the NSPCC and and not have some sort of emotional reaction is almost impossible, and that is was makes them so clever. The reality of these ads is spot on, abuse of any sort devastates lives, not just that of the abused but also those of their families and ...
...the problem is so huge that as an individual you couldn't possibly make any diffrence, but the truth is the complete opposite. If the only thing that you do is go to the NSPCC website, www.nspcc.org.uk, and sign the pledge there then you have done something. The NSPCC claim that each and every one of us either knows or has heard of a child being abused, it could be sexual, physical or mental abuse, but it is still abuse, and WE can put a stop to ...
