~~~BACKGROUND.
I had previously had a small container of the spray in a gift pack for Christmas (in a box with a trial size shampoo and conditioner, a handbag sized mirror and a silver hair clip) and was really impressed by the product, but upset that the little aerosol didn’t last very long. I looked at the bigger versions in Boots and Superdrug, but came to the conclusion that cheapskate me wouldn’t pay over three quid for a hairspray!
A spray for £1.00 then was a bit of head turner ~ but would the hairspray be?
~~~HOW & WHEN TO APPLY….
You can actually use the spray in two ways ~ either as a hairspray or to add volume to your hair. As a spray it is applied in even strokes to your already styled hair ~ I find if you spray from about 15 to 20 centimetres away from your head you get the most even and effective results.
If you want to add volume to your hair, spray it directly on to hair at root level ~ running your fingers gently through your hair as you do this tends to lead to a more even result!
As the hairspray is pretty long lasting I find that a good spray in the morning holds my hair for a day at work. I then reapply if I’m going out later (if I don’t get chance to wash my hair in the meantime).
~~~WHAT THEY SAY IT DOES….
According to the manufacturer it is supposed to hold even the finest hair in place gently and invisibly. It should also add shine, protect hair from styling damage, filter UV rays, prevent environmental damage and prevent static.
~~~WHAT I THINK IT DOES….
Big Hair Hairspray really does hold my hair in place! Granted, it doesn’t stop your hair moving at all, but the bit of movement makes for a more natural looking hold. It also leaves my hair feeling quite bouncy. I can’t make any comments on the claims that it protects my hair from UV rays, etc, though I’m sure that any effects will probably show better as time progresses (maybe during the summer rather than in the snow!).
It does, however do what I want it too ~ it goes on smoothly, it doesn’t leave any sticky residue on my hair and it brushes out easily without snow like flakes fluttering down or clogging up my brush. My hair also looks quite shiny and healthy when I’ve used it. You don’t get that heavy texture that some hairsprays leave and there is little evidence of dryness (I have had that from Organics hairsprays in particular).
My hair also seems to have increased body when I use it to aid volume. My hair isn’t thin, but it is by no means thick either! It does add a bit of height ~ a good thing with long hair when the weight of the length can have a tendency to “drag” your hair down.
My only slight criticism (criticism is probably too strong a word) is that the smell could be a little more pleasant. It isn’t a nasty smell, but it has that kind of lacquer smell that some hair products have. There isn’t any evidence of perfume and the smell is a little strong ~ it gets to the back of your throat a bit if you use too much (or happen to be talking while using it! LOL). I suppose my other problem would be with the full price; although it is available as a 3 for 2 offer at Boots at the moment!
So…the good points of this spray far out way the bad ones. It does a really good job as a hairspray and as a way to increase the volume of finer hair. It is also pretty easy to get hold of (but not at the bargain price I got it at) from most big stores (Boots, Superdrug, Wilkinsons, etc). I have no hesitations with recommending this product ~ it is good quality and seems to provide long lasting and effective results!
…..and I bought three cans while they were cheap ~ RESULT!
Advantages: great hold, nice, compact packaging Disadvantages: hair smelt of smoke after use
Charles Worthington’s “Results stay in shape super hairspray” was a pleasing find. Not only did it come in attractive packaging, backed by a trusted name and come in either a handbag size (75ml) or a larger size, it also promised to do amazing things for my hair:
Volumize, add shine, prevent static, protect hair from heat styling, filter UV rays and boost hairs moisture retention. Just what I was looking for in a hair spray! One major (for me) problem ... ...an ashtray had been
tipped over it. By the end of the night though my time invested hair style had held strong without looking hard and unnatural. To be honest I didn’t care that my hair had smelt like that because it would have inevitably smelt of smoke when I got home anyway! ...

Advantages: It does what it says on the bottle! Disadvantages: Feels sticky when you first spray it on.
When perms became passe I had to admit that my natural state of hair, ie very flat and very fine, would have to go on show, and so perfected the art of backcombing the front, front combing the back, and whatever else was necessary to prevent me from looking like a pin head.
But then I spotted a hair product that I thought I would give a go - after all, there must be some product out there that didn't make my hair feel like a sticky bird's nest. ... ...Hair (orange bottle, I've only found it stocked by Boots so far) styling spray absolutely indispensable. I don't know what it does or how it does it, but what I do know is that if you have very fine hair and you want it to appear thicker, then invest in a bottle of this! ...

Review of Charles Worthington Big Hair
Advantages: smells good, protects and conditions Disadvantages: my hair was worse than it was normally without hairspray
...about being an airhead...). Charles Worthington had everything going for him except that when I stepped into the tube station, it seemes as though someone stuck a straw into my hair and sucked all the air out of it. By the time i had reached my destination tube station, not only was my hair in a state of complete static, it was all over my face. I would not discredit the hairspray on basis of smell, protection it offers to your hair or to the conditioning ...

Advantages: Great hold and finished appearance Disadvantages: Hair can start to feel sticky
Charles Worthington,...hmmm. I must admit i am pretty dedicated to the Charles Worthington hair care range. Using shampoos, conditioners, serums and hairsprays of course.
Unfortunatley i am one of those people who never have the 'same hair' every day! For example, one day its smooth, curly and bouncy(commercially so!) and the next dry, limp and bordering straight! Its not about using different shampoos, because i always use the same products!So ... ...tell you one thing-it looks its worst just before an evening out.
It seems that whenever im getting ready for a night out my hair looks thin, limp and generally unnoticable. So i started to use the 'Big Hair' hairspray. To my surprise it actually worked-
my hair had volume! It looked completely different and was held in the same style all night.
The only problem was that by the next morning my hair began to feel as if someone had stuck some sort ...

Advantages: easy to get good price Disadvantages: weren't really any just the waiting for it
This one was really good. I 've had frizzy puffy hair for a long time and I have tried every thing in the book. I would have to say this one worked best for my hair everyone has different hair so yours could suit another type but I would recommend this one. All them adverts for frizz ease are a waste of time because that stuff is absolutely useless trust me on this one I know what your feeling but i'm saying have go of this one and see what you think ...

Advantages: Conditions well, not too heavy, makes my hair feel thick but still bouncy Disadvantages: You need to be prepared for the "big hair" effect when blow-drying!
seemed to answer most of those - the CharlesWorthington website (www.charlesworthington.com) suggests that this "weightless conditioner" can give "gorgeously glossy volume" and is a "light, body-boosting" product which sounded fairly good to me. On the other hand, clever marketing can be very persuasive - it doesn't automatically make the product good. On a side note, the packaging is not quite the same as the illustration at the top of this webpage shows, but other than a bit of rebranding - which must be expected over the years! - I am pretty sure that what was once called BigHair Full Volume has now simply become the Full Volume section of the Results range. These days it comes in comes in a flat strawberry ice cream pink bottle (which looks like an oval with pointy ends from above, a square from the front and has a lid that you press ...
Advantages: tamed flyaway hair, left it looking fuller Disadvantages: unusual shaped bottle made it hard to hold with wet hands
whilst pregnant with my first child, I found that getting my hair to behave was a very big problem.
Whilst pregnant hair and nails are supposed to shine and grow right ? Wrong !! In my case a head of fine flyaway hair turned into a head of completely unmanagable fine fly away hair, whilst browsing for treats in my local pharmacy I decided that I would give the CharlesWorthington products a try.
The smell was the first thing I noticed, unusual and slightly spicy, but the best thing was that immediately after using the products my hair was noticeably more manageable, shinier and felt fuller.
Since giving birth I have continued to use both the shampoo and conditioner and am extremely pleased with the results. ...
Advantages: Very nice on the hair Disadvantages: very expensive
It was a free product after I spent a fortune in the shop. I thought that it would smell scrummy and nutty, but it didn't smell that great. It worked wonders on my hair and left it feeling shiny and glossy. It left something on my hair as it took ages to dry making it feel strange but using a tiny amount stopped this. I don't think that this product is worth the fortune that the body shop charges. Many people I know agree. For the same price you can buy good brand shampoos, e.g. charlesworthington and get bigger bottles! The body shop gives you tiny bottles for big prices. I would buy it again for my hair but not on a regular basis as it isn't worth the money. ...
