Charles Worthington is the latest celebrity hairdresser to jump on the ‘high street hair care’ range along with the likes of Nicky Clarke and John Frieda. His ranges include shampoo and styling products, as well as a selection of body care products.
Charles Worthington ‘Big Hair Shampoo’ comes in a flat oval bottle in a particularly unpleasant shade of day glo orange. Attractive it isn’t, but eye catching it certainly is. The silver writing on the bottle makes an attempt to regain some semblance of dignity for the product, but doesn’t really succeed. The bottle boasts that the product creates ‘Bigger and Better Hair’, creating ‘fullness, thickness ands shine’ for ‘fine, limp and flyaway hair.’ According to the website for this product, if the shampoo, conditioner and styling products are used correctly, hair volume can be boosted by 30%.
The shampoo itself is surprisingly thin and runny. Also bright orange in colour, it looks like washing up liquid. The smell, which is supposed to be ‘sophisticated’ is actually quite chemically, and again more resembles cleaning products than quality shampoo. That said the smell does linger well (although whether you would want it to is questionable) 24 hours after washing, having spent time in a smoky environment my hair still smell of shampoo rather than smoke.
It lathers up well, although it is quite difficult to wash out. It claims you only need to wash a second time if you use a lot of styling products, which is good from an economy point of view, but because the product is so thin, you do tend to tip more out than you normally would in the first place.
After washing, my hair was a mess! Far from being bouncing with vitality and shine, it was all tangled up and resembled a nest. I seriously thought about sticking a few mini eggs in it and claiming it was an avant-garde Easter bonnet!
So, I set about conditioning it. The conditioner was the same fragrance, but this time resembled rice pudding. I had to apply loads; it just didn’t seem to want to sink in. Eventually, I got bored of trying to condition it and washed the whole lot off. My hair was certainly less tangled by this point but nowhere near as silky as some products I have used. I don’t think the volume had improved either, although one benefit I found was that it held its style better than normal, which, as you will know, if you have fine hair, is defiantly a good thing. Another of the claims made about this product is that it prevents static and I would agree with that.
The Charles Worthington Big Hair range is not cheap. It retails at £4.19 for 250ml, for both shampoo and conditioner, but you can buy ‘Take Aways’ which are mini 75ml bottles of products retailing at about £1.75. These are a good idea if you are unsure about a product and would like to try it without the expense of buying a full bottle and they are also good for holidays.
The Charles Worthington website, www.cwlondon.com has more information on all products in the range but I didn’t find it very helpful.
Possibly this product would better suit fine hair that was not chemically treated, although the bottle makes no mention of this.

...to treat my self to Charles Worthington. Although quite expensive it is packaged beautifully and it really works. Both the shampoo and conditioners in the 'Big Hair' range left my hair shiny, volumised and smelling gorge. I agree it is quite pricey but you really can notice a difference in the thickness of your hair. The smell is also really fresh and leaves a long lasting fragrance. I’ve never really bothered with Charles Worthington’s hair care range before. But Boots had a three for two offer on so I decided to give it a go. Now my hair isn’t exactly ‘full’, (fine and floppy more like) and it takes load of gel, mousse, hairspray and effort to get it to stay in some kind of style. (If I had the bottle I’d do a Demi Moore and be done with it!) So who is Charles Worthington? He started out ... ...well which is good. Now Charles only needs to put the consistency of the shampoo right and he will be on to a winner! So, does it make hair BIG? Well unfortunately no, well not for me anyway. It made absolutely no difference to the volume or texture of my hair. It is very expensive as well considering the fact that you can get one litre of Aveda Shampure for £20.00, which would cost £2.50 for 250ml. So all in all apart from the wonderful smell of ...

Advantages: Actually works!!!Masiive body boost! Disadvantages: A little pricey.

The shapmpoo in itself smelt very plaeasant, quite overpowering but nice at the same time. It lathered in moderatly well, and my hair felt extremely soft under the water (unusual in our area due to a lot of cha;k in the water). This shampoo is quite expensive - but in my opinion definately worth it. Initally l was introduce to the product by a hairdresser friend, who recommended it, l then saw that Boots had a special offer on so l thought ld give it a go.
A little goes a long way. You dont need to use half the bottle to wash your hair, and after one wash you can tell your hair is clean. It lathers up well and smells lovely. Its not difficult to rinse out either.
The ... ...of products suitable for all hair types - from those of us with that irriating problem of flaky scalps to you lucky people with normal hair! He also produces styling products to use along side these lines.
I would recommend that you use his conditioner alongside the shampoo so that you notice the real difference.
My hair felt, light, bouncy and glossy and after using this shampoo, l had to resist the urge from shaking and flicking my mane about!
