Glass Elevator continues the adventures of Charlie Bucket, his family and Willy Wonka, the eccentric candy maker. As the book begins, our heroes are shooting into the sky in a glass elevator, headed for destinations unknown. What follows is exactly the kind of high-spirited magical madness and mayhem we've all come to expect from Willy Wonka and his creator Roald Dahl. The American space race gets a send-up, as does the President, and Charlie's family gets a second chance at childhood. Throw in the Vermicious Knids, Gnoolies and Minusland and we once again witness pure genius. (Ages 9 to 12)

Advantages: Funny in places; easily available to buy Disadvantages: Drags on a bit
...strangely, there isn't enough about Charlie or his various relationships with his family or Mr Wonka, or indeed plans for the factory. Perhaps the original story was best off left alone. It's a relief when the family get back to the factory! That is the only time it feels as though there is any charm in this book.
I would recommend borrowing this before investing in it but if you do fancy it, Amazon have a double issue of this and the original book ...

Advantages: The best most successful sequel Disadvantages: My book fell apart
This second part to the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory follows Charlie and Willy Wonka in their flying glass evelvator. They enter a wondorous journey getting help from the whole family. The story begins where the last book left us, Willy Wonka, Charlie and his grandad in the Glass Elevator high in the sky. They collect the rest of the family now Charlie has won his prize and go on a trip, to space!
To not reveal to much more of the plot and ... ...space where they have strange and funny encounters.
Incredibly well written and not leaving anything to question, even explaining how the elevator can fly. A truely magical book which will leave you hooked from beginning to end.

Advantages: True Dahl style, will delight existing fans Disadvantages: Perhaps a rather flat sequel
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator was doubtless an eagerly anticipated sequel to the stunning Charlie and The Chocolate factory, an amazing book beloved by children and adults alike. In my opinion, the sequel fails to deliver, simply because there is not much chocolate in it. Still it's not all bad, even if most of the action does take place in a glass elevator in outer space. The book has an exciting plot, and some dry one-liners that will make ... ...and father. And of course, Charlie and Mr Wonka! Unfortunately, Mr Wonka presses the wrong button in the elevator and goes up "too far" - into space, in fact. After a fierce battle with some Vermicious Knids and most of the United States army, Charlie and his family return to the factory for some wonderful chapers more reminicent of the last book. And he finds a rather wonderful thing happens to his Grandmother Georgina - after they get her back ...

Advantages: This is a very easy book to read, fun plot and great pictures to help you through the book. Disadvantages: It ends.
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator written by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake. Published by Puffin Books. 192 pages.
This story starts where Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ended.
The Great Glass Elevator takes them up high, high into the sky (maybe a bit too high!!) and then brings them down again-but the story doesn't end there, remember the elevator doesn't just go up. The story includes the whole Bucket family, Willy Wonka the ...
