Daewoo Tacuma 2.0 CDX Auto

Advantages: Cheap to buy with low mileage available at low cost
Disadvantages: Thirsty Petrol Tank

Recently my wife and I bought a Daewoo Tacuma 2.0 CDX Automatic, manufactured in 2003. Our previous car had been very trustworthy, but with around 100k on the clock, and limited space with our growing family we really needed a new car. Our old one was beginning to fall apart too, and was becoming a source of embarrassment to be honest. The only problem was, we hardly had any money to spend and we had to get a car very cheaply, but it had to be reliable and with low mileage. We needed it to be quite spacious too. This was a challenge and had been stressing me out for a month or so. After perusing many car dealerships, car publications, etc, I saw the Tacuma in a garage. It was the right size, immaculate inside and out, and had only done 26,000 miles. Now, I understand that this car is not economical. However, generally speaking we do ...

Test drive the Daewoo Tacuma

Advantages: CD Multichanger, acres of space
Disadvantages: High tax band, mpg

--Background-- We bought this car as a second car, two years ago. Previously, my wife had had the Daewoo Nexia for over 3 years with very little problems. We knew that Daewoo offered us no thrills but we also liked the smooth ride it gave. In the end we settled on a 51 reg CDX which set up back £4000. --From the outside-- For those of you that are not aware, the Tacuma is classed as an MPV. I would say the shape is now slightly dated and I would liken the shape to the Renault Scenic. This model comes with the roof bars as standard and alloy wheels. --From the drivers seat-- Road visibility is very good as you are higher up than a normal car. Saying that, I can not see the end of the bonnet from the drivers position. I am 5ft 10 so maybe someone significantly taller would not have a problem. The dashboard certainly ...

Ford Focus 2.0 ESP

Advantages: Great driving, reliable car
Disadvantages: Ford service department

I bought my Ford Focus in June 2006, second hand from Ford with 38,000 miles on the clock. The model I own is a 2.0 ESP facelift, with the revised headlights which include the indicator, revised bumpers with bump strips & revised metal flush skirts. Now, in August 2007 the car is on the brink of hitting 70,000 miles and it literally hasn't missed a beat. The only parts that I have had to replace that are none wear and tear are the thermorstat housing seal (Ford however will try and charge you to replace the whole housing, where infact it is invariably just the rubber seal which perishes), and a n/s/f ball joint due to excessive play when being tested for an MOT, a grand total of about £50 non-expected maintenance. Not bad at all for 30,000 miles of motoring in just over a year. And as a furthur point of note, the Michelin Pilot ...
